Not a great experience at the best of times. Good luck to anyone trying to get anywhere today. Power cut = loads of cancellations.
An A380 from Dubai to Man got turned around over the peak district and looked like it was being diverted to Brum
Step daughter and husband were supposed to fly to one of the smaller Greek islands they where told they could fly but it might take 5 days for their luggage to arrive they where then told by another passenger who'd been to that island that clothes shops where very few and far between so they're on their way home
Thanks to you all for sharing your knowledge. My granddaughter is due at Manchester from Turkey in two days so it may have almost got back to normal by then
Imagine the fun if you're flying from Manchester today and using Northern Rail to get to airport.....
I'd seen a few contrails in the sky that looked as if the planes that made them had made a sharp turn (by 747 standards) looks like they might be the flights that were diverted perhaps.
She’s getting reimbursed hopefully in the next 24 hours and they’ve actually booked a complete new holiday to Ibiza going tomorrow from East Midlands which means she can now go and see Calvin Harris on the Friday so she’s buzzing again
Hopefully a happy ending then. Also East Midlands is a much more pleasant experience than Manchester.
Manchester Airport is appalling. Everything is about the extra pound they can extract and the passengers are just collateral damage. We vowed over 10 years ago to never use it again. We are abroad at the moment and flew from Birmingham. Never had a problem there but was a bit alarmed with the stories of huge queues for security last week. The official line was that it was due to the govt having postponed the relaxation of the 100ml liquid limit and bags therefore taking ages to check when people had large volume liquids in them. The actual reason is more due to refurbishment on going at the airport which means there are no escalators and the only way up to security is via 3 lifts. The queueing is therefore concentrated downstairs and at busy times it out of the door. So we set off extra early, and was first in the queue. Piece of cake from there on.
