I know this may not mean much to many but I started playing golf many years ago when me and mate used to go to Staincross. Life then kinda got in the way and I only started playing again about three or four years ago. Last year I broke 100 for the first time, last week I knocked around in 44 for 9 holes and today I broke 90 for the first time. Very chuffed!

I’ve played for years and gone in opposite direction. Hardly play at all these days despite kids being grown up. Once had a 75 round Staincross and now I rarely if ever get better than low 90s.
    Great game though, enjoy.

Years ago I started my golf journey at Barnsley golf course - first round 115 - not great. Second round had 41 at the 9th and had a terrible hole and didn't break 50 I was gutted. Those little milestones are massive for the first time golfer. Second round was 101 got it down by 14 shots - that was some achievement. Not played for about 20 years - be my retirement goal now!

Found the more you play the better it gets!

I started playing this year after 8 years away, left handed but play right handed and never had a lesson so it’s tricky! worked a way out technically my swing is a bit “niche” :) but I’m decent, strong 18 handicap, comes in handy when we play 4 ball better ball in pairs as it’s par or blob usually as I sometimes lack consistency, not actually counted a full card yet but I was ok for about mid 80’s

I started again back end of last year after a 30 year hiatus; decent 9 holer near me and am striving to break 50. When I do I am hoping to have a go on the second hole.
@onemickybutler I played the little course at Vale De Milho last September, lovely course but barely even a pitch n putt. Might play again in a fortnight!

Lowest score is an 82 on a few occasions. Once needed a 4 for on the 18th for a 79 and scored 8. #ouch

    Great game for all ages.

17th at Staincross has ruined dozens of good rounds for me….

Is that the long one downhill away from the road, then up and over a huge bank onto a sloping green? Yes, a card wrecker for sure.

And me but it was a long time ago. Was a Junior member there in the late 1970's and early 80's but haven't played at Staincross for 40 years now. Sounds like the 17th hasn't changed much. Don't think I hit the green in regulation very often. The other hole I had problems with was the one down along the road 11th? Im amazed I never hit a car the number of balls I sliced onto the road. I assume there is some netting there now to at least prevent that but 40 years ago there wasn't

Im a member of a club just outside Guildford these days, been there since the early '90s got my handicap down to 17 a few years ago but its a tricky course and on some of the pay and play courses would have been much more like 12 or 13 but broke my wrist a couple of years ago and then my regular partner injured himself and so I didn't play much for a couple of years, way off my old standard at the moment and its really annoying, struggling to break 100 this summer might even need a few lessons to correct whatever has gone wrong

A couple of lessons with a decent teacher can be a massive help. Not always comfortable, but can make a difference.

Golf is the hardest game I've ever played. To get that consistency is tough. Its the occasional good shots one does (we all do them) that keep you coming back for more.

I agree, The old pro at our club was excellent had the occasional couple of lessons with him and he alway corrected my swing and once I settled down was playing better again, but he retired a couple of years ago, not had a lesson with the new pro yet so I don't know how good a teacher he is

I got down to 6 handicap for the total of 1 week. Played twice a week and practiced twice a week until I got totally balled off with the game. I haven't played for the best part of 3 years. What I like about golf is that it's not at all frustrating!!

I'm improving out on the course (slowly but surely) but every now and then I have to count to ten and remember the basics from the lessons at the range.
My biggest issue at the moment is not taking a divot. Almost like I have a subconscious respect for the grass. If I could get under the ball with my irons I reckon I could be on for a respectable score.
Playing at Shipley this afternoon - lovely, well kept course, then at Bingley St. Ives Wednesday for the first time in 30 years - a beautiful challenging course set in lovely grounds from parkland right up to the wild moors.

I'm left handed but have always used right handed clubs. So nipped to a car boot sale and picked up a left hand driver and 7 iron. Went up to the driving range with a little grin thinking easily gonna be like watching a Phil Mickelson in his prime. Picked up the driver and took a swing, felt like I had just snapped my spine into fotty pieces. Didn't try another :(
