Completely agree with that. Just mic up the ref and everyone knows. Only reason they aren't is to hide any accountability

Armstrong was only interested in getting into a tangle with the defender.

Given that it seems to be split on here whether it was a foul or not, surely that also demonstrates why it probably wasn't overturned. It wasn't a clear and obvious error.

Aye, you don't pull the shirt of the defender if you are trying to get away from him to score, do you.

Agree and think someone like Kane would have been thru and scored..but also think it was a penalty even though he played for it..

I'm amazed there's even any debate about the challenge. The forward got himself between the ball and the defender, which is allowed. And the defender went through the back of him, which isn't allowed.

The scottish player clearly pulled the front of shirt of the Hungarian player in order to bring him down on top of him and claim the penalty, he has hold of his shirt the same moment as the Hungarian player knocks the back of his leg - how can it be a penalty if the attacker is fouling the defender?

So a player who, in the heat of the moment actually tries to go on and score a goal rather than fall over to try and win a penalty loses out.

And while we're at it, what is a South American referee doing at the Euros in the first place? Plus, he will probably get the Final because of his guaranteed neutrality (but that's another issue)

    Imho....If it goes to VAR....its a pen.
My view ....why was VAR not used?
I really don't get why it wasn't worth a look. I think they did have an upstairs review for the injury incident, where the Hungarian guy has lengthy treatment.

The ball was going pass him, anyone trying to score would have tried to get to the ball to kick it. Not grab the defender and turn away from the ball. Saying that the defender did put his knee into his calf. It just looked for me the attacker was playing for a pen

    should have gone to VAR

Var looks at all of those decisions but they obviously didn’t think it was worth a check

Check complete? Surely that’s the main bone. of contention, there was was no VAR done which is the real mystery as far as I’m concerned

At first i thought Armstrong stepped across the defender looking for it but looking at the reverse angle it was a stonewall penalty' i'm sure if it had been England we would all be up in arms' it makes a complete mockery of VAR just like the stonewall penalty on Kitching in the play off final.

It has been pointed out elsewhere that given some Scottish fans’ love of goading the English about Maradona by wearing Argentina shirts, it’s ironic that the referee who decided that wasn’t a penally and therefore helped knock Scotland out this time was from…. Argentina.

Never a pen according to the ref and backed up by that brilliant video assistant referee, and I hate VAR .
