Attention Reform Voters

Its some of the comments in threads like this that suggests to me that evidence and facts are completely pointless at times of election.

"They're all the same" is code for.... I'm voting reform but can't bring myself to say it out loud.

People are entitled to vote for whoever they like. I'd just like a bit more sense and reason to go into their decision than if they were voting for the winner on a reality celebrity programme.

 

In the last Euro election, I was in the polling station doing my vote and one of the locals was telling anyone that would listen that he hoped Farage would win. This was an election where Farage wasn't a candidate he could vote for, or an election where one person could "win" a position as a result of the votes.

Glad you agree Labour are fit to vote for. I don’t agree about the Tories though.

Well don’t change your mind now. You just said you think the tories and labour are fit to vote for. Now you’ve changed your mind and voting for the racists?

 

What draws you to Reform? Any particular policies?

 

I think the real difference between Tories and Labour is that they lie differently.

The Tories lies are told because they know they wouldn't be elected if they told the truth; that their policies are not to benefit the general population but only themselves and their buddies.

Labour's lies are also told because they wouldn't be elected if they told the truth; because the policies are designed to benefit the general population and those with power behind the media will gaslight the public.

I think it’ll be closer to 50% Labour and 35% Reform.

Still a depressingly high reform vote though.

 

Why would anybody from Barnsley vote for ex Merchant Banker Farage a self confessed Thatcherite, whose intention is to turn the UK into a replica of his beloved USA where you'll need health insurance to see a doctor. I'd love to see the faces of the chaim smoking hard drinking type 2 diabetes ridden reform voters when they see their health insurance premiums if Farage gets his way. If they can get cover of course.

Stupidity and/or racism. There’s really no other answer. His party has 0 policies that would help working class people in the long term but people are too stupid to see it.

 

Apparently he "talks sense" whatever that means.

 

I saw an interview with a Reform voter the other day - think it was someone from Swindon on Sky News. He was all "The immigrants are stealing our jobs". Turned out he was a twice-convicted paedophile, so no wonder he couldn't find work...

 

It does begger belief.

 

I could easily see that seat tipping reform. Bxp vote is likely transferable, tory vote is likely to collapse still further, and I can see left wing vote peeling away to vote Green or independent.

 

Errr - lift the income tax starting threshold to £20k?

You're making the same mistake that everyone did during Brexit. Dismissing swathes and swathes of people as stupid and racist, instead of engaging with it and explaining all of the issues. Of course they have some policies for working class people. £20k income tax threshold. Scrapping energy levies that they say will reduce bills by £500. Amending the Miner's Pension Scheme so that all surpluses accrue to ex-miners.

What's stupid is pretending they don't have any policies for the working class. They very very clearly and obviously do, and that's why they are such a dangerous threat. Like Brexit.

 

I did specifically say in the long term. Raising the income tax threshold to £20k will have a small boost to peoples wallets initially but will be dwarfed by having to pay for the services that will have to be cut to pay for that. When you remove a progressive tax like income tax and replace it with fixed fees for services and increasing other taxes (which will simply have to happen) you're only benefitting people that are high earners.
