Leeds have turned down 30 million quid for Rutter and my leeds fan mate is happy with that. I know he is a good player but I think we may have lost sight of just how money 30 million pounds is. It got me thinking how much Barnsley have spent on transfers in their entire history. I bet irs well under 100 million. Any ideas?

I think received fees will be down on expenditure because sometimes we buy crap and let players leave on frees or pay them off.

This would be why. Don't think they need to sell anyone now do they with Gray leaving for that much? They've also sold Roca, Cresswell for almost 9 million.

According to Transfermarkt, which I don't trust 100% but is at least better than a finger in the air, between 13/14 season and 23/24 season, we have spent £22,667,000 on incoming transfers, and received £45,185,000 from out goings.

Madness that the continued existence of our club is all we have to show for it.

You think they should sell one of their star players, who has shown he can play English Football, who has four years left on his contract, for a five million pound loss? They will be expecting closer to 50 million.

Those figures sound quite plausible to me. Transfer fees have spiralled out of all proportion in the last 30 years. Our record purchase was Hristov for £1.5 million in 1997, and our record sale, excluding the extras we received for Stones, is the £5.5 million for Mawson. When we received £29,999 for Tommy Taylor in 1953, that was a huge fee. The first £1 million transfer in England was that of Trevor Francis in 1979. Today's prices for top players, and even for some of those who are a long way short of that category, are utterly ridiculous.

Way more than that Hristov, Dyer, Sheron, Ward that waster Kane all over a million

Whether 100% accurate or not that suggests a lot of money has not been reinvested in the team or club, before the club apologists go on the attack yes we know it costs to run a club but we bring in revenue and for many years it was reported we were in the black so where’s it gone?

A long way still off £100m imo mate. Voice of reason hits the nail on the head. In todays money. May get us more than the £22m quoted. But even then I'd think we'd struggle by a mile.
The Tommy Taylor one for example is equivalent to £1.05m today apparently.
But as one of the best players of his time. That figure would be in the 10s of millions today. Allus makes me wonder what in my humble opinion the greatest player ever. Would be priced at today. George Best.

It’d be interesting to see how much we’ve spent in paying off players/paying wages when they’re out on loan etc.
