The link I posted states 99% likelihood Barnsley North voted Reform and 98% likelihood Barnsley South. I don't think it's close.
Doesn’t surprise me if it happens. A lot of ppl I know have voted reform with immigration being the sole reason. Don’t think they’ve even looked at the other policies that reform represent. I’m guessing this will be the thought process of many of Barnsley’s Reform voters. You have to shove some blame slightly on Labour as the town did vote for Brexit yet our MPs voted to remain. That comment was thrown at me from some who voted reform. Then we had Stephanie Peacock taking offence online via twitter by being called “love” in Barnsley. Not a classic move by her. You could say it had been coming with the recent surge in council and past GE results in Barnsley showing a year in year support of many of Farage’s parties. Personally I’ve voted Labour. I’ve actually sat back, listened and read most parties manifestos and I agreed with Labour the most. I’ve never tied myself to any particular party and always voted for who I thought shared most of my views. Bit of a shame if it happens but I do kind of understand why it’s happened. It shouldn’t have and if Reform get in…..it’s Labours job to try turn it around in our areas.
People of Barnsley, if this comes to fruition, you need to be totally and utterly ashamed of yourselves. I’ve never lived in Barnsley, how I came to be a supporter of the club I’ve explained before and it isn’t for now - but wow. Sad, sad day. I too will need to consider coming to games knowing that the majority of locals in the town, which make up the vast majority of the support, have such beliefs. This isn’t just different politics, this is support of an abhorrent collection of views. The worst thing is, in turfing out good, solid politicians in Dan Jarvis and Stephanie Peacock, replacing them with David White and Robert Lomas, you’re getting someone who has flip flopped from the tories to Brexit party to Tories to reform - because he couldn’t quite decide how far right he was for a bit - and, even more shockingly, in Lomas, somebody who’s views are so beyond the pale that the fecking Reform Party themselves have disassociated from him. Utterly, utterly shameful. I shudder to think what our owners and directors will think of this; as though the bile posted on x etc wasn’t enough. I despair.
I'm not one of them for the record, but a lot of people, especially of a certain generation (of which I'm not a part of) do not jive with Starmer/Raynor's approach to the rainbow. I guarantee that has swung a lot of people over to reform. Not to mention the fact that Labour Councils in Barnsley are commonly seen as corrupt and self-serving, of which I have no opinion. At the end of the day, the one with the most votes will take it, that will be the will of the majority and everyone will just have to get on with it.
Been calling it for weeks, absolutely embarrassed if true. After 2016 we shouldn’t be surprised though, we’ve a town of people who think anyone not from Barnsley are outsiders and should be feared, therefore reform are right up there street.
Yes you need to 'engage' with them or there'll be more in future. You can call them stupid racists if you like. Your choice.
One of the weaknesses of this kind of polling is that it can be pretty bad at picking up local tactical voting. One of the really interesting things about this election is how the polling will hold up given that it's pretty much designed for a two-party system. Looks bad for sure, but I wouldn't lose hope just yet.
What should be a good night has quickly turned a depressing one. I cannot beleive the good people of Barnsley would send people like those two to represent us. I really am shocked.
Was really looking forward to tonight after 14 long years, but this, if true, has totally taken any joy away. I'm always extolling the virtues of my home town to anyone that will listen, but it will be a hard sell after this.
Are you really suprised?! As noted above in another post, it's probably the most racist town in the country.
Really deflated what should've been a night to celebrate. The country will be celebrating and our town should hang their heads in shame.
