Well done England...much better. Still not fantastic but did enough...just. Foden, saka Mainoo...very good. Excellent penalties.
We build up so slow, never break at pace so the opposition are always organised in position in front of us. By the time we get to their penalty area there's no space to work with. We were slightly more dominant of two poor teams and the Swiss could have nicked it in the last couple of minutes. Switzerland are no more than decent and we've yet to play a good team in this tournament. Netherlands (probably) will be a different kettle of fish.
I agree - I thought it was awful to watch and I found myself shouting at the tv even more than previous boring efforts. It’s like we had 6 or 7 Herbie Kanes on the pitch. There was a free kick not far from their penalty box which was back with Pickford a few seconds later. I’ll be charitable and say it was Southgate’s master plan - bore the opposition to sleep and then do a smash and grab. The only time it got interesting was when we got to the inevitable shoot out and obviously nothing to complain about there.
It's tournament football...only about winning, the Germans have won 4 World cups and 3 Euro's and I can't remember many, if any, entertaining sides from them at all.
Kane's been like an unfit 40 odd year old in heavy wellies, in every game!. although the service to him is questionable.
Genuinely think quite a few on here want us to lose as they would be happier moaning than they would be having to praise Southgate for doing what Robson and Venables couldn't.
In fairness, I've hardly enjoyed any of the 'performances' so far. Apart from each goal and end result of course, but it's a real struggle to sit through.
I honestly never ‘pile in’ to Barnsley and I’m not ‘piling in’ to England either. But if it’s not about entertainment then perhaps we should just go straight to penalties. Cut out the boring middle bit so to speak. Might cost less in ale too
This argument can always go both ways though. A bit like us with Neil Collins... do we want to see entertaining and exciting football, or do we just want to win matches ?.
It's coming home...etc Not read this thread, in Tunisia and cba, but I thought it was our best performance so far. Still not great but at least showed some attacking intent. Perhaps it's the beer here!
We need to support Kane up front more, as we have the options in Toney or Watkins. But he really doesn't look fully fit. And what was that about with the booking, the Swiss player was taking the mick there.
