Walsall goalkeeper who has been linked with us this summer has just confirmed on twitter he has left Walsall.
He’s under 24 and Walsall offered him a new deal. So whoever he is signing for will have to pay for him.
No different to when Collins signed. He was the same age at 22, out of contract and only played 30 games for Burton
Exactly this. Frustrates me when people write someone off who’ve they’ve never seen play. Adam Davies had barely played any senior football and was decent. Dave Watson was plucked from our academy and ended up being a premier league goalkeeper. I suspect many were less than pleased when they were given their shot.
Does that still apply if he didn't come through their academy? They signed him last summer from Wolves.
https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2024/july/09/jackson-smith-signs-for-the-reds/ From what I've read, I'm happy with this one. Inexperienced, but a great shot stopper. If he commands his area better than Roberts did too, then arguably we've got an improvement.
Most of their fans seem sad he’s leaving and are wishing him well. Hopefully that’s a good sign. I’m glad it’s not another loan signing and hopefully he can develop in his time here. Certainly seems to be the plan given what was said about the new keeper coach the other day.
