Barnsley Football Club are delighted to confirm the appointment of a new addition to Darrell Clarke’s backroom team. Bittner, who previously worked alongside Clarke at Whaddon Road, played professionally for several clubs in the Football League before becoming a player/coach at Plymouth Argyle in 2015. A year later Bittner joined Newport County in the same role before retiring in 2018 and joining Reading, firstly as U23 Goalkeeper coach before stepping up to become First Team Goalkeeper coach for the Royals between 2019 and 2022. Whilst with the Royals, Bittner worked with Argentinian World Cup winner Emi Martinez and experienced ‘keepers such as Vito Mannone and Orjan Nylaand. Bittner, 42, joins Martin Devaney, Jon Stead and Conor Hourihane on Darrell Clarke’s first team staff. Darrell Clarke said, “I am delighted to welcome James to the club and add him to my coaching staff at Oakwell. “Having worked with him at Cheltenham Town, I know that James builds fantastic relationships with the ‘keepers he works with and develops their all-round game. “James comes highly rated in the industry and I’m sure he will settle in well here and make an impact.” Continue reading...
