I thought he was gracious interviewed by ItV. Accepted we were better in the first half, was correct that Neds were on top second half, and that we won with a brilliant goal. He said they weren't unlucky because it was a good goal that won what was otherwise an even 50/50 second half.
Always amazes me how people get ‘spirit of the game’ mixed up with ‘laws of the game’, especially when it comes to penalties. Last nights was a good example in the spirit of the game it shouldn’t have been a penalty, as there was no malice, intention or effect by the player he was just trying to block. However the laws say it is a penalty as he led with his studs facing the player and that will be why it was given. The Ref IMO initially gave what should have been the correct decision as he used common sense but the minute VAR intervened he had no choice.
Auto offsides absolutely they are bang on and quick the PL really need to look at how tech has been used at Euro/ WC it's miles better.
Were the studs facing the player though? Its only Kanes momentum which puts him in front after taking the shot? I'll have to watch it back. Regardless, I agree with Gary Neville. Never a pen
Even Neville conceded with his last statement when he agreed that anywhere else it’s a free kick but in the box there should be concessions because it’s in the box. For what it’s worth I wouldn’t have given it either.
I watched on Bein Sports (in Tunisia) and they showed the usual graphic with lines etc, was easily off, almost full body.
Referee applied the same logic to Bellingham in the second half, similar scenario, ball had gone, reckless challenge, free kick and yellow card.
