Other than Donovan Pines, ( who I don’t think has a say in running the club) the fact that our kit photoshoot was in New York ( one of the fashion capitals of the world) and the fact that we might still have a couple of minority shareholders who are American, why do some of our fans keep insisting we’re continuing down a path to become Barnsley Red Tykes franchise and uproot ourselves to play in the MLS. Our Chairman is Indian. None of our directors are American, JAQ is Australian, Mladen is from Yorkshire, there’s the Crynes, Robert Zuk and Jon Flatman. It baffles me.
Baffles me why our photoshoot was in New York at all but then the released photos are of players who couldn’t look more miserable, having to wear the awful kits, in the dim-lit stairwell of the stand. It’s like we're trying too hard to do something different and the net result is utterly tin-pot.
Why couldn’t we have a normal kit reveal a couple of weeks ago in order to get kits released in time for the school holidays so folk can buy their shirts before they go on holiday? This club & these owners lack common sense, that’s why
Maybe, just maybe these successful business people are trying to leverage their knowledge and expertise and drag the football club into the 21st century. Views on the design are always going to have differing opinions but I think there is more knowledge on fashion, photography and marketing outside of the BBS than there is on it??
Yes, I was expecting NY iconic backgrounds, they may as well have used Locke Park and saved the planet and the cost! Got I'm a Barnsley girl in a Barnsley world running around my head after that horrendous pink creation!
I keep seeing people confidently making this assertion as if it's fact. What successful business people do we have on our board please? Outside of "Inherited a fuuck load of money from parent/husband" Just interested, thanks.
Isn't JAQ's offices in new york and i reckon she has a lot to do with design of shirts, she is supposed to be some kinf of fashion guru Isn't she
And while I'm at it, I think there's a massive misconception and misunderstanding on here of what VFiles is and what it's purpose is.
You’d have thought so - until the dimly lit photos of players looking uncomfortable in ill fitting kits were plastered on social media.
You didn’t miss much pal other than Toby in a metro train doorway which could have been anywhere, you wouldn’t know it was NY no landmarks or owt just a football pitch and 3 babba kits
Assuming you're referring to VFiles - she doesn't own a business. She runs a not-for profit, effectively charitable organisation. This is what I mean about people not understanding what VFiles is.
It's basically a charitable, not-for profit organisation who's purpose is to allow people from under-represented backgrounds to get into the fashion industry. As a part of that they have a small boutique fashion cornershop between Tribeca and Bowery to showcase designers. I had a walk to have a look at it last time I was in New York. It's a social endeavour, which is brilliant and super ethical and all that good stuff. But it's not making any money because that isn't it's purpose and it isn't allowed to as a non-profit organisation.
That’s what it is now but only became that 3 years ago, founded in 2011 but started trading in 2012 I’m assuming she was at least reasonably successful in the first 9 years to be able to establish it and turn it into what it is today. Even a not for profit technically is a business, it still has to be run, bring in revenue (earned or donations) etc. Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying she made so much money from it she could buy a football club but that’s not what you asked.
I think it's a wonderful endeavour and JAQ is understandably proud of it. My problem with their involvement with our kit design is we have talented designers here in Barnsley who Barnsley's own style icon, Rita Britton, championed. Why couldn't JAQ have got them onboard?
