I don't think the players have worn socks in the traditional sense for a few years now. The ones sold in the shop will be socks though.
Maybe they get around that by actually wearing some white socks like those on the pic. So in fact the red or pink ones indeed are actually over-socks or they really are leg warmers.
Anybody not wanting to splash out so much on the official socks. Temu have you covered for just over a quid haha. Just to point out, I haven't purchased any
Most clubs have these 'socks' without the foot bit these days. Started noticing it a few seasons ago, but seems commonplace now.
They're not leg warmers. Leg warmers are quite chunky. These are almost sheer. And clingy. They're more like pop socks. Footless, shocking pink pop socks. Wonder what the promotion team of 78/79 would have made of footless shocking pink pop socks.
They apparently do it because they prefer the wear of the sports sock over the material used for the football socks - polyester? Probably in terms of blisters etc. Commented the other day that you would think they could engineer a proper sock these days with cotton in the foot and the rest polyester or whatever it is.
The young un wears them, grip socks, he then cut off the foot of his U11s team kit and his mother sewed elastic round the bottom, to create a sock sleeve. The grip socks fit much better into modern day boots than the chunky football socks.
