Our U21s’ team has been bolstered with the additions of Callum West and Connor Barrett, who will link up with Tom Harban and Nicky Eaden for the 24/25 campaign.

West spent time on trial with our U18s last term and was amongst the scorers as the young Reds suffered a 5-3 play-off semi-final defeat at Charlton Athletic back in May.

“I’m very pleased to have signed with the Club,” stated the former Macclesfield and Burnley midfielder. “It’s a new opportunity, and I’m just looking forward to getting going and starting the season.”

Barrett, a centre-back, arrives after departing Sheffield United at the end of the 23/24 season having originally come through the academy at Birmingham City.

“I’m delighted to be here,” he said. “It’s obviously a big opportunity at a big Club that’s aspiring to be in the Championship, so I’m delighted.

“I’m a big centre back, a decent athlete and I like to play with the ball and I’m aggressive with my duels, which is a big part of what Barnsley are about as a Club.”

Barnsley Football Club can also confirm that Leo Farrell, Ziggy Kozluk, Bayley McCann, Emmaisa Nzondo and Rogan Ravenhill have all signed their first professional contracts.

The quintet were part of our successful U18s squad that won the Professional Development League title in 2023, whilst also reaching the play-offs for a third consecutive campaign last time out.

Senior Professional Development Phase Transition Coach, Tom Harban added: “It’s on the back of what the lads have done in the last couple of years, coming through the under 18s.

“The group has had a real positive couple of seasons in terms of making the play-offs and winning the league, and these lads have been part of that and, again, performed well last season, and they’ve been rewarded for their efforts.

“They’re good players, and they’re still young and have a lot to learn, and it’ll be different adapting to the under 21s because of the physicality of the league, which is more than what the under 18s is, but we think that these lads have got ability and potential to kick on and hopefully forge themselves a career.”

Connor Barrett (next to Tom Harban) played at Alfreton on Saturday. He made a bursting run out of defence and through the middle with the ball, to slot a pass through for Dyer's goal. Looks very good with his feet. Definitely one to keep an eye on.

Be good to start adding to first team anytime now just over 3 weeks to go ! I know it’s been said they are trying and some of it depends on players returning from the Euros but they will be on holiday so parent clubs may not know this month who they can release?

We've brought in 3 vital positions already. Supposed to be a 4th very soon. Loads of clubs will be waiting until they get their own transfer targets in before allowing others to leave?

And had a bid turned down for another, who we more than likely will go back in for
