Flew out to lithuania yesterday. Could have been a problem if we'd have gone today

Well I can't login at work right now...seems to be related to Crowdstrike cyber security.

Its actually quite serious and causing global chaos TV stations off air ( Sky News CBBC in the UK for example) Doctors cant access records and you cant book appointments, some places cant take card payments, trains and planes heavily affected. further afield 911 calls dont work in Alaska.
Not sure I understand how Crowdstrike cyber is causing the issue as it also seems to be related to a windows update

Pretty serious if you own Crowdstrike shares! Today would be a good day for a fire drill... can't do anything and 30c

My work laptop is affected. But not everyone in the company is affected. I don't understand why, if its one of the standard automatic updates, why everyone didn't get it. Those who are still operational have been told not to reboot otherwise they will get the faulty update and get the issue.

I saw it in the news this morning whilst having my brekkie, then got dressed, walked into my study to start work, saw the laptop was off, meaning it had had an update, and thought oh f%##. Sure enough, couldn't restart. Just waiting for some kind of update from IT but looks like a day off for me.

How one company can cause such global carnage eh. Single points of failure.

Not all updates get put on laptops or servers at the same time. Ie, some turning them on later in the day etc manage roll outs based on bandwidth.

This issue is more like a virus/protection system. Think defender or Norton etc. and updates to those are and can be pushed out with windows updates. It's not a Microsoft thing, but causes the dreaded blue screen of death. So if you have that, you can't exactly just switch back on for a further update.

An absolute cluster **** as it happens. (Heads will roll somewhere) Which just goes to show you should never have auto updates on at a server level at least. And manage when updates go out. Maybe set a policy of -1. And ensure that no one else is reporting problems before you allow updates through on your own estate.

Yeah, I work in IT. And we don't have anything with crowdstrike, so we are completely unaffected (as far as I know anyway)

Glad I am not due to fly anywhere this weekend. Looks like chaos at the airports.

I'm alright, it's the computer that's got the virus.

Anyone know how Liz Truss's first day at Crowdstrike is going?
