Good innings is 91. A legend of the game. If you think Davis for the 80s, Hendry for the 90s and O Sullivan since, it was Reardon in the 70s.
Ray Reardon born Tredegar* Gwent 1932 . Reardon turned down a place at a grammar school to become a miner at Ty Trist Colliery. He wore white gloves while mining, to protect his hands for snooker. In March 1959, Reardon married Sue, a pottery painter: 43 After a rockfall in which he was buried for three hours, and with Sue's encouragement, he quit mining and became a police officer in 1960 when his family moved to Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire, England. Reardon's dark widow's peak and prominent eye teeth earned him the nickname "Dracula". Six times World Champion (* birthplace of Nye Bevan - Neil Kinnoch)
Remember him from my childhood watching snooker . Lovely tribute from Jimmy White on twitter, being a decent bloke is more important than being the fantastic snooker player that he was. RIP Ray.
Good memories of the snooker scene in the 70's. Did a few visits to the crucible and saw quite a few top names. Ray Reardon was always a top performer and played the game the right way..RIP
Thought he'd shuffled off this mortal coil years ago, memories of tbe 70s watching him play on my Grandads black and white tele, RIP Dracula
Wins any frame of snooker 91. RIP Ray. Remember being a bit scared of him when he was on tv when I was a nipper! Played on the Dracula thing in his later playing years as I recall. Universally respected in the snooker game it seems though.
RIP Ray, great bloke. Although I was surprised he was still around tbh, he looked like he was knocking on in the 80s.
Was at Crucible in mid 70’s when Perrie Mans got wupped in the Semi by Reardon. He was a true great of the game . RIP sir
As a big snooker fan myself, I'm sorry to hear this news about Ray. It goes without saying of course, but I never heard anybody say a bad or critical thing about him. I think he was genuinely liked and respected, by all. And I loved the 'Dracula' thing lol, and I think he liked going along with it.
