How many on here criticised folk for saying Woodrows total included mainly penalties. And scored very few outfield goals. Yet criticise cole for only scoring 2 since january out of 18. Mind boggles somewhat.
Only my opinion.... I just dont think he's great that's all. He's not mobile enough, doesn't stretch defenders and his first touch isn't particularly good. He also failed to score in loads of games after January as some have mentioned. I just think we could so better IF the board have some nous. Again, just my opinion.
I don't think he's great I just think he got alot of unwarranted stick. I also think the football didn't suite him after January especially after the Bolton game the tactic of pass round the back then hoof wasn't great.
I loved Woodrow. Some of the goals he scored were superb and varied, and some cleanly hit one touch finishes. I was sad to see him go and would welcome him back in a heart beat.
I reckon Clarke would get him firing on all cylinders with a positive style of football and id happily have him back. It's been done to death but hardly any players shone under Collins's brand of football.
I'm just quoting the double standards of some posters. Cole scored the some cracking goals also. Woodrow in his last stint scored 4. In 25. Season prior 12 in 42 of which I believe 8 were penalties. Never said I wouldnt have him back. But not if he doesnt produce the goods of old.
Really can't understand the stick Cole gets. He's just got 15 plus goals for two seasons running - how many strikers have we had do that recently? And yes I know he dropped off towards the end in terms of goals, but do we not take into account the fact that the whole team dropped off? And also the fact that he was pretty consistent the season before. I hope we do manage to replace him but I think we'll struggle.
I liked woodrow but his last 18months here were poor the last season he scored about 3 goals all season and he scored plenty from the spot but offered nothing otherwise. People like Bradshaw used to get stick tap in tom etc even winnall used to get it too. Must be hard been a striker at Barnsley eh?
Not sure that’s true. He never actually seemed to care that he played for us when he scored he still used to look miserable
I'm not suprised with all the stick he got he was actually arguing with barnsley fans on twitter a few times who were trolling him online.
But not all fans treated him like that. His not seaming to care made it easier for more people than it would of if he had actually made it appear to be happy to be here. He’s clearly allowed a minority to rule the majority.
Not for me I never saw that in interviews he always spoke well and his leaving message was nice but he acknowledged the haters. Herbie Kane didn't even give a goodbye to the fans. Spoke awful in interviews and was laughing when subbed ar 2-1 down in play offs but got far less stick than Cole.
Oh I know mate, I’ve just said same about Cole’s goals further up the thread. Tbf to Woodrow though, his last 2 seasons with us were at a higher level than we’re currently at. His tally might not have been good under Val, but the strikers were regularly rotated and the high press didn’t really suit him. Season after that? Nightmare best forgotten. if I’m throwing Cauleys name into the hat, it’s based on his performances at this level.
Just posted further down thread about Woodrow and his last 2 seasons with us. He was actually part of a top 6 championship team that didn’t necessarily play to his strengths and used 6 strikers per game. Second season we were gash and rotated managers instead. I think out of all our recent strikers that signed at this level, Winnall is the stand out. He smashed it in league one and was equally as comfortable in the championship before his injury problems. Woodrow is the player I’d re sign based on his performances at this level, if he was available of course.
Suppose everyone has their players that they’re not going to like. My earliest was Steve Lowndes when I was about 20. He was probably better than I gave him credit for, but I just couldn’t see it at that age.
