We’ve had some managers who have spouted the typical management BS, Darrell seems like a genuine man who wants to get on with the job. He’s had a lot of heartache in his life and I certainly hope he succeeds at Oakwell.
Would he have spent much time with them? Doubt they'll have interacted much - they would have been gone before he arrived.
And I'm thinking you're correct, Herbie Kane is an imposter, never been anything other than a very low level pro footballer, and Cole was even miserable when he scored, glad they've gone .
I’ve not listened to the interview yet (plan to tomorrow whilst at work) but the quote I saw was that Devaney has passed on that the atmosphere in the dressing room is better now one or two have left. Herbie was a decent footballer but if his interviews were anything to go by, I imagine he isn’t the easiest to get along with. Who knows, maybe he’s totally different when the camera isn’t in front of his face. Either way, let’s hope Clarke can get a good atmosphere going and get the players enjoying themselves this season.
We will get promoted with Darrell. He knows exactly what he wants from the players and from the hierarchy, and won't be told he can't have it. I'm getting excited for the season now.
Glad he sees the need for a number 10 & a wide man. The lack of options to change system killed us at the back end of last season
Darrell comes across as really positive, honest, and ambitious. I’m confident he’ll set high expectations of himself, the players, and the club. He has the experience to know what is needed and how the team should play. Hopefully we can address any additions needed to the squad and have him and all the fans happy. Would be nice to keep a successful manager for more than the one season.
Great stuff! Thanks for posting. Love this time of year... new faces, hope and expectation, rekindled enthusiasm, new season just around the corner. Takeaways from that 35m: DC's positivity, no room for negative thought, straightforward, no ********, good sense of fun and humour, hard work a pre-requisite. Very happy with his appointment. Well done Mladen and the Club. Great to hear Robbo again. Top attitude. A real appreciation of the Club and fans. Sounds thrilled to bits to be back. Also young Craig. Could be a top catch. We live in hope....again!!! Let's hope the positive attitude on display can be driven into our fan base. A fan base, which, if it really gets behind the club, can be as good as any in the country. COYR.
He on about what he has control over.. ie players staff not fans.. Sure I've already heard him say.. fans pay there money and have their say.. He knows fans are fickle and wins especially at home brings em back on side..
So if that's strikers plural, a LWB, a wide option, a 10 and keeper. That's 6, we've given ourselves a lot to do and not a lot of time to get it done. Plus bringing in 1 LWB must mean he's expecting styles to stay, can't afford to leave ourselves with 1 option there like last season. Interesting interview. Seems like a top bloke
Brilliant listen, all of that. Darrell, Robbo and Matty all spoke really well and give me lots of confidence for this coming season. We all know that a couple more need to come in but they will, sooner or later.
Very impressed with DC this interview only strengthened that view. He speaks clearly doesn't waffle and tackles questions head on to the point. Comes across like he's got a plan in place and just commands respect. Like hearing "he has plan B" and not afraid to change things, gives us options. Interesting take to hear he mentions it's become a more positive environment than last season with some players moving on Cole? Kane? Perhaps
Should be aiming to have 90% of your business done before your first game, then maybe a loan or something for someone who wasn't available earlier in the window. The last few seasons not having our deals done early and players fit and ready to go for the start of the season have cost us a shot at top 2. Which on the contrary leaves us with 2 weeks to bring 5 in and a further 3 to find 1 more. Considering Clarke's been here for 2 months and we've brought in four players, we're a bit behind. Glass half full vs glass half empty I guess.
