I think the vast majority do, and even those of us that don’t mind the red shorts won’t be upset if we go to white shorts next year, or black shorts. Or white socks. Or hooped socks. Or red with a black trim.
I just don’t get this “it’s eroding our history and destroying our identity” outrage.

The same people complaining about the red shorts vocally on here are in the main the same people who complained about the fact that the Puma deal has gone on for two long and we want Hummel or Adidas and the red brick shirt was awful and the 2021/2022 was too plain. The TVs aren’t switched on on the concourses…

It’s about winning games of football in the end. If we get promoted and win what ever the Pizza Cup is called this year, then short colour will be completely off the agenda.
If we’d signed Roberts and Hourihane and Matthew Craig on the same day that we released the kit we wouldn’t be talking about the shorts.

 

It's not the same shirt, they have different sponsors. It's only important the shorts match apparently.

 

We know they read the board. Hopefully JAQ isn't too pigheaded to realise it's a very poor decision.

They can both succeed under the BFC umbrella with different colour shorts, surely.

 

Whites shorts aren’t wanted by some in the womens game. Man City women for example have a dark blue colour shorts to go with their light blue shirt.

Arsenal I believe still wear white - though neither mens team have been affected.

The women have a different sponsor. The kits don’t have to exactly match. The red shorts could be an alternative choice if we wore red away - but there was no need to force an all red kit on the men’s team. It wasn’t necessary.

Picking up on a point made earlier in the thread - I think the kit colour is more of our identity than playing at Oakwell.

I could fully see us playing somewhere else in 15-20 years - but would still expect us to wear red and white at home.

I’m not massively upset about it, there’s bigger things in life, but I don’t think going all Red was the right decision. Especially when the shorts are darker red than the majority of the shirt, the darker shade of the little stars.

 

A combination of generating a fear factor (single colour making the players look taller and the red suggesting domination and power) and a little homage to Real Madrid and their single colour kit if I remember right.

 

Being a diverse and inclusive club is more important than some people's personal preferences.
Some people preferring white shorts or bbecause of what colour shorts have been worn previously is not really a reason to differentiate between genders. Two teams one club.
If the women's team and female supporters feel a change from white to red or black thst there is a sufficient reason to do it then that is what should happen and us as a club fans should support that.

Let's be honest if JAQ actually gave a toss about equality and both teams being identical then vfiles would be on the mens kit.

If the colour of the shorts doesn't matter at all then there's no reason why the women can't wear red shorts.

And more importantly what the **** are the women going to wear in away games? Our away shorts are basically white

 

All the clubs that play today in all red, or all blue, changed in the 60s or later. Before that they wore white shorts. Liverpool, Bristol City, Middlesbro, Chelsea, Leicester - all wore white shorts until the 60s.
Leeds were blue and gold - their city's colours - until Don Revie changed them to all white to make em think they were Real Madrid!
Times change. Always have always will.

 

Barnsley play in red and white. Sportswomen deal with periods. Blood shows on all light colours and will.show on the pink. Seems like Julie is using this to justify the decision to have shorts and shirts the same colour.

 

It's not bxllocks mate it is how big companies are moving forward. Decisions are made based on D&I, company culture, behaviours if they feel that this decision aligns with them values then thats what they are doing.
If people don't like it then tough this is where we are now.
I would prefer to be part of a forward thinking company than left behind the times or stuck in the dark ages.

 

I don't think that's been the case since JAQ took them on and they became an official part of the club. The main reason they won promotion last season was the extra coaching and fitness training the girls were given by the club. That was blindingly obvious to anyone who watched them throughout the season.

 

Yeah because Barnsley playing in red and white is such a dark ages concept. It's practically neanderthal when you think about it

 

They haven't got the same kit, the shirts are different. They have a completely different sponsor. Why do people defending this decision keep ignoring this?

 

I have a simple modern solution if the issue is the ladies wanting to not play in white shorts let them wear black ones. If the issue is the lady who does the laundry having difficulty getting the grass stains out of white shorts then buy her a new washboard and a new bar of carbolic soap for god's sake BFC I've solved the issues for you again

You heavily implied that not changing to red shorts would mean we are in the dark ages.

 

I don't mind having red shorts for a season but the reasons in that article are beyond lame. Maybe the Mirror misquoted JAQ.

But it smacks of this mindset that's all to common in the modern Executive world. Needless change for the sake of it in the expectation it makes the decision makers look like geniuses. And if you question it, you're called neanderthal or regressive, resistant to change, whatever but you're in the wrong.

I'm all for the most innovative disruption of all. That is, not dicking about with things that have worked for nigh on 140 years.

 

I personally prefer the red and white kit, I also have no issues if the kit is all red but I would prefer red and white. If the club believe that changing the kit to all red now makes the women's game more inclusive then I am happy with that decision, it is not big deal for me but to our female players and fans this may be a really big gesture from the club that is appreciated by many.
So that in itself is worthy of praise.
If the male and female teams have different sponsors on the front then I certainly don't see that as an issue.
