But why would anyone pay 30 quid to watch em when you can already watch the 18s-21s for nowt.. Plus head coaches these days are only ever going to dripfeed them into the first team because they're job depends on results.. So never going to happen..
Youth will be given a go mate. But to think they all are good enough to step up to first team football in one go, is a bit of a pipe dream. Its summat all clubs would wish to see. Rather than splashing the cash around. Man utd are the only ones that I remember having a golden era under Fergie. With a crop of top youth players come through more or less within a year or 2. Crewe were renowned also. but couldn't hold on to the better ones. So never really reached any heights. Young players thought good enough will be introduced gradually. But as in most cases only a small minority in any academy make it through. Admittedly Bobby says this is probably the strongest set of youngsters he's seen at the club. How many will cut it is anybody's guess. Some as always will attract the attention of the big clubs and we may be lucky to hold on to em. The best that I can remember is McCarthy. But at the other end. Eg Stones. Bree. Hirst. Played very few times for us. Imho We had a golden era under Hunter. Of home/youth grown players 4/5 in the team, but very few since. Ones we let go too soon imo. eg. David Speedie and Jonathan Clarke.
Tbh mate I can't remember. Man utd the only ones that I remember being able to hang on to em all. Possibly liverpool if I can recall as well. But clubs like those will always have the pick of the crop. Even then. most will fall by the wayside.
