I thought Max Watters showed more enterprise and speed against Derby than at any time last season under Collins Now granted it was only a friendly but he did battle with purpose against a strong Derby back line. With a run in the team he might, just might be able to be a half decent player, as at the moment it's not looking forthcoming on any incoming forward(which we need)
He made and scored some crucial goals under Duff, even if he was only a bit part player. He must have something about him surely? Clean slate and all that. Why not? I can’t comment on his pre season form as I’ve only seen the 2nd half of the Derby game and bits and bats of the Mallorca match. It’s not that long ago in the grand scheme of things he went to Cardiff for 7 figures after a great scoring run at Crawley. Don’t get me wrong I wouldn’t like to have to totally rely on him as he hasn’t done it yet at this level. And I suspect he might be a sub more often than not when Jalo is fit. But plenty of strikers have blossomed in their mid 20’s so why can’t he?
He's extremely limited as a footballer, but he can finish and he's got incredible pace over a short distance. I'm sure he'll score goals if given the right service.
Clean slate for sure, and I massively want him to turn things round. More of the same under the new gaffer though, won't be enough. Personally think he's been one of the poorest strikers I've seen play for us. His goal against Wednesday has given him huge credit IMO.
Below Dagnall for me, always had great work ethic and some pace about him. I don’t see anything about watters, hopefully he proves me wrong. But I doubt it.
Strikers need support and be given every chance not 45 mins one week 45 mins another. Both Watters and Cosgrove were victims of that last season until Cosgrove was played toward the end of the season and produced the goods. They also need support from the fans though that could be asking too much
He must know inside that last season was a write-off. So he is no doubt low on confidence or shall we say a little nervous. But as said, he starts with a clean slate and a new gaffer. Like most fans I really really want him to come good for us. 5h1t or bust!!
From what I’ve seen so far in these 2 years is that he’s pretty ordinary (sometimes very poor) outside the box but then comes alive inside it. Maybe if he gets an early goal he can get some confidence and a run going.
Looked fit and ran around a lot, but so does next doors springer spaniel and he's not a pro footballer on £5k + a week. He still couldn't hit a barn door against Derby, but if we can see that, so can every other club, no ones gonna spend money him.
