Take a leaf out of Sky and Boxxer's book. Get the atmosphere pumping next Friday, get the lights flashing, bit of darkness pre kick off, loud music...get some life pumped into the stands! We've seen it tonight, looked a totally different place, but still the same if that makes sense.
Unfortunately the town isn’t behind the football team anywhere near as much as they are behind Callum Simpson. But it shows what the difference could be if they were.
The atmosphere wasn't down to flashing lights and some cheesy songs. It was down to selling two pinters 5 hours in advance of the main event, that you could drink in your seat. Tipsy people always up the atmosphere.
I haven't watched any of this tonight, as first of all Im at work, and also boxing doesn't really interest me. So obviously and all joking aside, Ive no idea who Callum Simpson is. But I do like the idea of there being more of these events, especially if they can get better and more popular in future. This will surely help put Oakwell stadium on the map in a really good way, and this in turn could be good for the football club as well.
I ate the biggest Humble Pie last neight, well done Callum, an well done Barnsley, great night, fantastic, awesome, gave me goose bumps more than once. Now thats what Barnsleys all about, well done everybody for making it possible. C,O,Y,R.
Two-pint pots allowed pitchside and a way less @nal 'sit darn' attitude by the club and officials and you might get it.. Plus the officials and authorities treat football fans with suspicion and contempt. They hate and fear the working class and why they brand em far-right
You can't compare boxing crowds at 10pm on a sat v football crowds on a like for like basis, football has become a much more family oriententated sport, where as a boxing crowd would be significantly less family and much more alcohol fuelled. I agree though be nice to improve atmosphere, but I think it's dropped off in general within football not just oakwell.
Lots of clubs are doing pre-match light shows these days, and with the right music it does raise an atmosphere. The club have now seen what can be done, so it's over to them. For starters get Callum on the pitch on Friday and pump up da volume...
there were a lot more women in the ring than there are on the pitch usually… but there were a lot of couples/families there that wouldn’t be there for a football match. My wife likes to see chiselled muscles on display as it’s a treat she doesn’t get at home.
Of we are winning regularly and challenging top two the atmosphere will be excellent at Oakwell if we are only mediocre top 6 then no atmosphere and plenty of booing.
