upon the season starting I've just been racking my brain as to all the great goals we've scored. So I thought I'd make my top 5. this is obviously my opinion from the time I've watched the reds (88 to present). I may also have missed a few so please chip in and also for the older fans it would be good to hear of goal pre 1988.

    So here goes

    1. Darren Barnard Vs Huddersfield 1998

    2. Owen Archdeacon V Leicester 1993
    (1.54)

    3. Adam Hammill V Millwall 2016

    4. Brian Howard V Cardiff 2006

    5. Anothny Kay Vs Plymouth 2006

    Great list.

But I would argue Barnard comfortably makes the top 50 ever scored in English football. None of the others come close.

Good to see the Archdeacon goal in there as it’s one of my personal favourites. Always wonder if it would have happened had the Leicester keeper not been hobbling around on one leg at the time though?

Adam’s goal at Wembley just hits really deep for me. I don’t know if it was the situation, the opposition, the stadium….. but it is up there with the best moments in my life, so I’m saying that’s number 1 for me.

To paraphrase Brian Clough: “Barnard’s goal may not be the best Reds goal ever, but it’s in the top one.”

We mustn’t forget Big Trev’s 25 yard chip against Brighton in the League Cup, although as per previous discussions on this forum, I remain convinced that he was actually somewhere near The Dove when he shot.

And of course there’s any of Ronnie’s 92 (or 93) goals as well. :)

Trev's salmon leap against Man City in '81. Ranks alongside Barnard's for me.

Of course all above are great goals, but one of my favourites has always been winnall's header v Cardiff. Brilliant goal and if I knew how to put it on I would

I'd agree with DB at No 1. Hammill's often makes me cry - with joy - but I'd agree with you about McCourt's. Finest piece of individual skill I've ever seen from a player in a red shirt.

Campbell-Ryce against Donny (I think). We were down to 10 men after Moore got sent off and JCR dribbled past at least 64 players before slotting home.

Also George Williams when that tool in the net had been time wasting all game and he let a 0.4mph header underneath him.

That's a fair point. I only went for McCourt because he went past 74 players, took the ball back to the half way line and dribbled around the Middleborough Coaching staff in the dugout, then went onto the Kop and managed to evade the lunging tackles of around a thousand mad Boro fans.

That tipped it in his favour for me.

And his goal always gets overlooked in the at game because of the one Julian Joachim scored!!
