Haven't posted for a long time on here, but genuinely looking forward again to the season ahead. Kind of repeating myself from previous years, but matchday is about much more than just the football for me now. I really like the close season and tend to forget about football until after The Open golf has finished and then start turning my thoughts back to Barnsley.

Of course I want to be entertained and see us win matches, but just as important is the fortnightly pint with the lads who are part of my football life, talking nonsense and bo!!0cks and agreeing and disagreeing with those around where I sit in the Ponty End. The last few years have taught me where football is in the pecking order of importance of life.

I have no idea what this season will bring, hope more than expectation prevails, getting behind the club and the lads on the pitch is as much as I can offer.

Supporting Barnsley is very much like having a three legged dog. It's not perfect, just when it gets running well something trips it up, it often leaves you shaking your head in pity or despair, but still makes you smile now and again. But it's loved dearly.

    Come on you Reds.

I'm really excited for the start of the new season, old mate. Sadly, due to poor health, I won't be able to attend. I still love the club as much as I ever did.

    Love that analogy Metatarsal!! Perfect.

I’m the same really. Don’t know if it’s an age thing the highs and lows are less acute than when I was a pup. I get to see mates, go to new grounds, spend quality time with my son. What position or league we’re in doesn’t really change that, although I must admit Collins-ball did test that theory!

Winning every week playing exciting football is still the hope. Not sure that’s what we’ll get, at least straight away anyhow. But I still can’t wait!

Breaks my heart to hear dyed in the wool reds not being able to get. All the best mate, maybe this wall to wall telly coverage isn’t all bad.

Looking forward to it, even though it's my first without a ST since 90s, so will be a little strange. Seems I'll get to watch most though, either on sky or iFollow when I'm at my Paris pad on the Seine

I agree, because it’s like having a three legged dog it needs more love and attention and support.

I posted last week that I was upset I wasn't 'feeling it' as I have in years gone by. But it's a different game now, ruined by lots of issues, mostly due to money.

    But .....

I'm pleased to report today I am a giddy kipper. All the old feelings coming back. Got my scarf and hat out, got my ST in my wallet and made sure it is in my digital wallet too. Got petrol; son on way home from Liverpool (via London) to join us tonight, and I accepted a new job offer earlier in the day having been out of work for three months. New beginnings - bring it on.

Enjoy the game, and the season guys. Be nice, whatever our footballing views.

    YOU REDS

Yeah the excitement is still there, as this is the opening weekend of another new season.
And we're first up, live on telly, on the Friday night.
That does annoy me though, what Sky sports are doing. I'd rather see proper 3pm kick offs on Satdy's. :)

I've got absolutely no excitement for the season whatsoever and I'm not entirely sure why that is. Maybe it's the fact it's on a Friday night and I know that so much of the coming season has been ****** about with that I'm just thinking the whole thing is going to be a big hassle to get to games, or it's because I was so bored for the entirety of last season that I'm just a bit feeling like what's the point? or maybe it's because of the Euros and the Olympics meaning there's been no gap at all to get bored and be needing the football?

No idea but I hope that once I'm back inside the ground I will get the feeling back because it's the first time I remember ever being this disinterested. I've no idea how we got on the other night because I didn't bother to check, no idea who played or anything and I haven't even got round to uploading my season ticket to my phone yet (or is it downloading?). Just feel a bit meh about it all sadly.

Sky Sports are trying to piss off fans of lower league sides so they'll agree to scrap the 3pm blackout.

I'm getting giddy all ready. Love Barnsley FC, love the sitcom that is a football season. The pie before the match, a pint with my oldest friend, taking my teenage son to the game and him knowing more about the players than me (passing on that love and knowledge of Barnsley FC is my greatest achievement as he was born in Manchester to a City loving Mother).

    Bring it on.

Scrapping the 3pm blackout would be much much better than what they're currently doing

Now if I know Geography it seems a bit of a long way around to go from Liverpool all the way down to London, to come up home :D

    Lol,
Lives in Liverpool but was working in London today.

    And .....

Turns out him and his sister have been scheming behind mine and Mrs Mac's back.

Daughter has been in Oz since February. She was coming home for a visit in a couple of weeks, but it turns out she was kidding. Met her brother in London today, got the train home together and turned up on the doorstep an hour ago. We would have had a heart attack if it wasn't so nice to see her.

She'll be chuffed her Dad's off to Oakwell tomorrow.

Really looking forward to it. I’m not that bothered if we don’t get promoted tbf. I want to see attacking football with a good positive manager in charge I think we will get that. Hopefully see some young lads come through too.

I’m really looking forward to the season. I think we know that the squad isn’t finished yet and that the first game comes around without us finishing the strengthening required.

However I like the cut of the new gaffer’s jib, and love the fact we’ve brought in experience to support the young talent.

We appear to have a recognisable style of play, even from the preseason games. We have a number of support staff coaching specialisms whilst Clarke oversees. I like it.

I think we are only a goalkeeper and a good centre forward off a competitive squad - I really do.

    Bring it on.

One thing us owd uns have, are memories full of highs and lows. The highs that most clubs fans only dream about. Several promotions. Play off finals. Fa cup semi final. Results against top teams when vast underdogs. Great eras where we were one of the top dogs over most other Yorkshire clubs. Premier league. Football to dream about. (Hunter then Wilson)
lows a few relegations and a couple of play off final defeats. A few shockers. But on the whole a team and club to be proud of.
Thing that comes with age is, I go into a season with hoping for the best. But invariably take it as it comes.
I still get nervous during games but rarely does a defeat affect me once it's over. Even wendy play off final. One stand out one where I wanted to punch the telly, was pompey away last season.
