Absolute no. It's super easy to avoid threads you have no interest in. And what's your cut off as to what to include in a different area? All non related football stuff? Just political stuff? Are moderators content with the additional workload to keep things in the right area and particularly if a thread veers off course? And if you state non football threads are separate, 'made me laugh' needs to move, assistance and advice threads, posts about nature or travel... All are not football based but add to the tapestry of the bbs and more so... Actually help people. And if you are going to change it, you need a majority. Changing things based on a mandate of circa 30%... Democracy this is not.
No. But maybe we should ask thread originators to use an "O/T" marker at the start of any non-football threads. That would make it easy to avoid them. And even easier if thread titles were clearer as to the content (as things stand, some thread titles are borderline clickbait).
Does the forum software allow for tags to be added to threads? Would there not be a compromise of sorts available whereby when you create the thread you have to select a tag which is assigned to the thread title? To start with it may be enough to have Football and Off (or Other) Topic. In time it could be expanded to include say, Music Politics and RIP/Obituary
Maybe we should clamp down on “click bait” type thread titles. I know I’ve done it myself before where I’ve put “Guess what”s happened now!” or similar where you would have to open the thread to see what it was.
100% yes for political threads since they're a blight on the BBS. Contrary to some responses, they are not easy to pick up on at all - e.g. thread entitled "Oh Dear" on matchday gets me thinking we might have key players missing as opposed to it being unequivocal evidence of Keir Starmer bigotry... usual load of crap ensues along the lines of "but Tories" & a bit of virtue signalling thrown in for good measure. Then the claims that around 30% of posters isn't enough to change things is beyond a joke - the only reason it's as low as 40 people is because many others have left the BBS. Personally happy to have off topic threads but the political ones add nothing, are mostly toxic & need hoofing off to a separate section. PS for avoidance of doubt, not having a dig at Arabian Ian for the Oh Dear thread since I agreed with everything he said on there
30% absolutely isn't enough to change it. I suspect you'd be frothing if an issue you wanted garnered 70% of a vote and was ignored to do the exact opposite. I'm picking up on a theme though of people who don't seem to like political threads!
Keep it as it is. I love the political threads, most of them are superb entertainment and comedy gold. Posters try by reasoned argument to change other posters' views, despite knowing full well that nobody has ever changed their views by reading the views of others. I laugh at the attempts, all of which are doomed to failure.
Good idea but if we'd applied that rule all the comments about Collins' team would have to have gone on non football threads.
Do you know that as an actual fact or is it a piece of pure speculation on your part to bolster your argument?
