They need to bin signing the Mansfield lad and spend it where it’s needed.

 

Mansfield deserved that. Some lessons learnt for Clarke, hopefully. To be fair to him, he made the brave change early and it paid off. But Barnsley are as toothless up front as we all feared.

We have accumulated more than entire team of not-good-enough players though.

 

This squad looks about 60% ready for the season.

 

We need Pines. We need a proper striker. We're not a million miles away. The one thing I'd say is, who was the last player that got us off our seat? I thought Philips would blitz this season. Loosing 1-2 to Mansfield is bleak. I hope Clarke understands the assignment.

 

Ah well. 1st game of the season, not a great start but I'm not letting the result ruin my weekend like it will for some on here.
It's obvious where the squad needs strengthening and it needs to happen quickly!

Thoroughly deserved result. Fair play to Mansfield, they deserved it for the first 25 mins and the last 15.

Shambolic defending and very little creativity. Complete lack of energy in the first 30 mins too. Yeah, the forwards weren’t great but even Messi would struggle to score with the service we give to them.

The subs made a difference but not enough.

Hate to say it but Hourihane was pathetic when he came on.

 

Being played on the Friday evening means he still has an entire weekend to do something worthwhile.

 

Tbh the squad balance is poor, if clarke wants to play a 442 effectively we need 2 strikers, a LB and then wide players, this is what happens when you apply a single system throughout the club, rather than recruiting the best players your budget allows then playing a formation around them, still all that said had enough chances to get a point at least.

Well a long season it’s going to be, unless we spend money we haven’t got. It’s not looking good, it’s hard to find the positives from that performance. The only thing I can take from that is what positions we need to sign players for.

 

I mean he hadn't before late on, and it was 2 saves in the end, and theirs made 3.
It was also 4 shots off target each.

 

Yes, with a decent striker we would have won it.
