service wasnt good and they didnt look like they played as a pair. However we had more than enough chances to go ahead yet could hit the proverbial ‘cows ar*e with a banjo’

We lack a flair player that can run with the ball and open things up, Jalo could make a difference when he's fit.

Is Watters a midfielder? I ask because he cannot finish but he does have decent feet and he does have an eye for an assist.

I cannot help thinking (dunno why) these threads are counter-productive. We all know there is a shortage of quality options up front. Cosgrove and Watters were selected and that wasn't too controversial given the situation. Both players cannot be faulted for their efforts (unless they were shirking during the extended periods where the iFollow feed was unwatchable but I doubt it).

Cosgrove gets fouled every time the ball goes near him and was himself harshly penalised for some fair challenges I thought. He got on the end of a cross that was a bit too high for him and headed it over. Different day, different result.

Watters, he's clearly low on confidence. That pass back to the keeper when through on goal where a simple pass to either corner would have done summed his performances up. He did well to find himself in that position but then fluffed his lines. He also did some nice work leading up to the goal. He's not a terrible player, just doesn't seem to believe he can score.

But none of this mockery will change his mind, unfortunately.

We did. It was the game after the 7-1 mauling of Huddersfield. Away at West Brom it was Rose and Goodman and the following Saturday at home to Birmingham it was Goodman and Turner. In our next league match we went with Goodman up front on his own away at Oxford. I bet you can't guess how many goals we scored in all those games?

We started the season with Liddell (sold to Wigan in October), Fjortfot (Sold to Frankfurt in November), Ward (sold to Blackburn in December), Hristov (crocked for the entire season in August), and Hendrie (injured in August but limped through a few games up to January).

Tom Bradshaw when Hecky gave up and played him up front on his own.

Not sure who Devoide is. But would be good to have Devante, who was our top scorer last two years.

Crikey. I have to admit I can’t remember that. Where was Bruce Dyer? I remember him scoring in a 3-2 win at Sunderland the week before the 7-1 win over Hudds. Thinking about it he also got the last goal in that game.

I do think that there’s a good old fashioned no.9 in there with Cosgrove. Not sure I can say the same for Watters.
Max has some pace on him, but what service is he expecting, cos I just saw his pace being used out wide and never to a thru ball in the danger zone. Was that down to him, the midfield, or just lack of understanding.
If Cosgrove is going to be that target man, he needs to be getting onto the end of crosses. I saw one yesterday and he didn’t hit the target.
I’d play Cosgrove and Phillips, leaving space for Luca, Craig and Russell in midfield

Watters should have had atleast 2. Cosgrove at least 1, even Marsh 1. We created plenty of chances as you say mate so service can't have been that bad?

Yeah it brings back bad memories of how that '98 season fell apart, for various reasons.
Is it true that Hendrie fell out with Fjortoft, and wanted him gone!.
It makes you wonder just what the team might have done, with Hignett and Ward in the same team, all season.
I'm disappointed to say it, but it doesn't surprise me at all, that Hendrie was never a manager again!.

Oh I get it now. Very good. Personally I think scoring 15 plus for consecutive seasons is pretty decent. Be massively surprised if we find someone who will get similar returns.

I’d say even Watters would have scored 15 if he’d had the service and definitely if he’d had the patience shown by coaches, when you consider the lack of effort how lightweight he was. I’ve never altered my opinion of DC from when he was here on loan and his out of the blue signing, did give him credit when he scored a few early last season but then post Christmas he turned back to the same bobbins waste of a shirt.
