Still ran it in under 3 hours despite feeling the pain after 2 miles. Incredibly tough

One one hand , it’s tough and determined and a helluva achievement but on the other hand to me it seems a barmy thing to do, she had no proper idea what the problem was and could easily have damaged her future prospects if it had led to complications.
Also given her admission that prior to the games, she knew she had no chance of doing anything than just finishing, would it not have been fairer to let the reserve run?
I know it’s a big event and the disappointment involved, but…..

This is the result of me stubbing my toe getting in the bath a week or so ago. Only missed one day of running though, but it was painful for a good few days after.

Fair play to this lass though, a marathon is painful enough without a broken bone in your leg.

    Magnificent! What a woman.

Well done to her. That race was an epic contest all round.

I’m with her on this, I did a similar thing during a 10K run when i first started running a few years back, the pain tends to more of a nuisance than agony, that said I only had 3k to finish.
Also the sacrifice given in the training for this is huge, not just from the runner but everyone around her to give up what was probably a dream for her just to be there for a managed risk wouldn’t have made it a possible option to not go.

like I say I can see both sides , but the next in line would have trained just as hard and had way more chance in the race
