His movement is great. He runs the channels well stretching the defence and his acceleration/ pace can cause chaos at this level. Needs done goals and self belief. We also need to not rely on him too much pushing pressure on him.
I got boll*ked on here Frog, for saying I thought it was a good signing. Bringing him/Max back here after his loan spell.
You weren't the only one mate, plenty of people said it was worth a go signing him. He had a very decent record before signing for Cardiff too, hence why they paid a million for him, 16 in 19 for Crawley, 7 in 14 for Mk Dons in legue one, his minutes per goal is really good. It's a bit unfair on strikers sometimes because they'll come on for about 5 minutes and then it'll be added as an appearance to his stats so people just look and assume he's played the full game when obviously in reality he's probably had about 2 kicks of the ball in 5 minutes. Some folk, I've noticed, said it was worth a punt too, now having a go at club for signing him permanent lol, the benefit of hindsight ey mate. Hopefully his form picks up because he has some great attributes
Hey I think I said Frog (along the lines of).. I thought it was a good signing, because he's had a decent loan here to begin with. And as a result, the player and the club knew each other and he wouldn't need that time to settle down. And I compared him positively to Slobby Tedic, who we also had on loan at the time, and I think Max was better than him.
There is definitely a player in there and I really hope he rediscovers his confidence and shooting boots. Likewise Cosgrove who showed what he could do in the away leg at Bolton last season. It would help if we got behind them both.
It is but on minutes played he’s not bad. As @Stephen Dawson says it makes a change that Marsh, Cosgrove, Watters all want to play for us and we all want them to succeed
He looks a yard quicker and sharper this season. like others say, he has excellent movement and acceleration. He’s got the tools to succeed at this level and I hope the fans get behind him, which if he continues to work hard then I think they will. He should start Saturday and fingers crossed he can score, as I think all he needs is a few goals and he will fly.
He’s not really been given a run of games either. When Cole went 14 games without a goal and wasn’t signing a new contract he should’ve had an extended run in the team. From what I’ve heard (and it might be bobbins) he turned a loan move down to Carlisle in January
Looks fitter, sharper and quicker this season. The better of our two main strikers so far this season. As Fiona said, we need to give him a chance as he's a better player that some fans are giving him credit for. Maybe the change of head coach will benefit him? Like others have said, I think he just needs some goals and a bit of confidence and we could see a very different season from him. Fingers crossed for the next game!
Sorry but you can't start a thread on a public forum with a ' if you don't think the same way as me please don't post' Anyway apart from that I'm one of those that thinks he has something.. just needs a couple of goals for confidence.. which may or may not come we'll have to see. But if we are after two strikers he'd better knock about a bit or else he'll back to where he was last season.. Come on lad prove the anti-Maxers wrong
The problem for any striker is you will be judged on goals. He definitely had more about him in that game and showed good movement, but he's missed some really good chances. Hopefully that penalty (with so little pressure on it) will give him a bit of confidence. If he gets a goal in open play, I could see him getting a couple, he looks like he's overthinking things rather than just being instinctive. Don't think, just do.
Watters will be alright. Shows class at certain times then does the basics very wrong and is very low in confidence in front of goal. Should have scored two last night. Fair play to him standing up and taking an important penny as well.
All strikers rely on service we had loads of the ball last night and it was a positive performance but how many chances did we create. I know he missed that chance and it was a good one but it's not as if it was chance after chance. Don't think Watters is ever going to be a fox in the box type instinctive the penalty showed he's got bottle he didn't hide, come on Max lad you can do this.
I didn't want this thread to turn in to Watters bashing thread hence the request to not post negatively on it. Which in turn has turned out to be a decent thread with a bit of positivity and optimism for young Max. I loved your prove the anti Maxers wrong quote and I'm happy with my request to the anti Maxers to keep their negative opinions off this thread.
