What I find sad is that the left have abandoned the working classes, the ideas of economic equality and justice, and have decided that equality should only really apply to ideas of identity and culture. Most of the people directing their energy’s in this way have come from a degree of privilege that makes the concepts of economic equality uncomfortable given their backgrounds. Most poor people in this country, and the rest of the world are far more interested in economic equality, not the kind of equality being pushed by “the left”. And they have willing partners in big business- they love pride month and equality and diversity initiatives because it does not challenge existing economic power structures. It’s no coincidence that the places where we’ve seen the riots are those where turn out at the last election was lowest. Political disengagement comes from apathy but also anger - if your life is not being improved by the people in charge- and you are then castigated for having the temerity to complain, and you feel that the pursuit of equality doesn’t seem to include you then I’m afraid you are going to get bad actors praying on those frustrations and twisting it to their own ends, blaming others for your plight and giving people a story to explain their disenfranchisement. The privileged, the politicians- local and national, the people who run this country they really do need to do better.
Im not racist because i think it is completely ridiculous to single out someone because they happen to have a different skin colour to my own... I reckon that's probably a better way of putting it than saying i've got mates who are black etc...
Shouted down. Not allowed an opinion that doesn't agree with yours. Here comes the abuse. Think about it.
Err Benny was actually going along with your opinion there, and you've had a pop at him!. I hope he/Benny forgives you lol.
Just makes me laugh that Starmer's been in a month before the riots and suddenly it's all his fault. All you need to do is look at their facebook pages and what they're sharing. It is all the same stuff about boats and Starmer being the nasty pensioner hater.
That's not what I said in my definition though is it? In fact I specified people who are blanket against all immigration. You don't fit that definition based on what you're saying. And no it doesn't make you racist, unless you express in a racist manner. It is a legitimate concern. And honest conversations should be had. (But let's not do it here!! Enough going on) Are you saying you have personally been called far right on here?
Read the OP. Nobody mentioned racism. It's you that brought it up. The question was about this forum.
The OP was nothing to do with the current climate then and people not being allowed to have issues with immigrants coming over and getting stuff that our pensioners can't then?
Is it that the left have abandoned the working classes, or the working classes have abandoned each other? There was a time where a hard working person would give up half their food to make sure another hard working person could survive. Instead people punch down all the time, and the working classes are the worst at piling in on a scapegoat, especially if a so called politician says that you should. People say the left has abandoned the working class, but what they mean is that the left don’t require you to be working class to be deemed a supporter of the left or to have your corner. The working class used to be about unity and now it’s partly about division based on differences.
I just hope that Starmer can see the economic links between the riots and the areas they occurred in - there were no riots in Surrey - are people in Surrey less racist then people in Wath? I actually seriously doubt it. If all we get is a further kicking for these places rather then a genuine attempt to address the inequalities in this country then it’s not going to get better.
I would just like to say that I haven't abused anyone tonight, yet the replies have been less than kind . Is it not possible to have a serious debate on here without being called, well all sorts of things. It really does seem that anyone with a different opinion isn't welcome. Am I right in that assumption?
On the flip side, have the people in Surrey more or less reason to riot because Labour have got in? I don’t know without looking it up, but assume that Surrey is a traditionally conservative area and now they are represented as a country by a party they did not vote for.
You haven’t been shouted down at any point. You continue to post. And have barely offered any opinion other than the bbs is far left.
