I initially thought Bullock, but more often than not he’d go down a dead end. So I think for me it was more hope than expectation. He did some thrilling things though.

So I think my 3 would be Currie, Redfearn and Hammill. Closely followed by Hendrie, then Bullock.

None of them had/have the faintest idea what's happening next after they get the ball, so I'm on the edge of my seat.

Great thread. Those three did, of course. I'll read the the rest of the thread after I've given my answer, but I don't want to be influenced:

Andy Liddell, Ashley Ward, David Geddis. And a couple of dozen others.

John Hendrix - Made the promotion season with some of those goals

Darren Barnard - He was just a wonder goal machine.

Stones - it was apparent he was going to be world class within about 5 minutes of his debut

Too many to narrow down to 3, but I fondly remember David Hirst making his mark in the first team. He was like a bull at a gate, and experienced defenders really found him a handful, even at 17 yrs old.

That goal at Forest certainly caused some excitement

In my 36 years watching, no footballer has excited me more than Martin Bullock. Particularly when used from the bench against tired legs. They’d knock it out to him on the wing and EVERY time he’d go on a run, try and get at the defence. He didn’t pass sideways or back. He engaged the defenders. So yeah, he excited me. I’d expect something exciting.

Promotion season, Marcelle had a similar vibe.

And then Hignett. The most talented footballer I’ve ever seen play for us. It wasn’t quite the same sort of excitement. More of an expectance that something magic could happen.

I guess Hammill is the only one of modern times to have that kind of aura about him. He’s picked the ball up, he’s going to engage the opponent and something special could happen.

It feels like we’ve lost that type of player over the years. Not Barnsley, but football generally. There’s far too much thought and consideration these days. Even without the excitement, back in the day you’d have a Banks, Redfearn, someone who’d just get it out their feet and have a dig. It’s why I like Phillips so much of the current crop. He’s a throwback.

I’ve been on the ale in fairness.

Bullock, Paddy McCort and Vaz Te

All of them made you want to stand up when they got on the ball. Vaz Te seemed to score for fun, but the others, especially Bullock, weren't often very effective, but when they were it was brilliant and I loved them for it.

The buzz in Oakwell when Glav got the ball was electric.

Like somebody else posted,it’s impossible to pick 3 especially if you’ve been watching nearly 60 years, for me Glavin and two others.
