I was wondering what people's thoughts were. We loads of defender's but all but two are right sided we sold Kitchen for good money for one reason left sided especially centre backs are like hens teeth. I thought Robert's looked very uncomfortable on the ball because he wasn't on his nauutral side as inconsistent as Earl is we are completely knackered without him. The midfield all good player's but all similar as in little pace not going to run with the ball.

    Totally agree.

Personally I would play Pines as CB, Roberts RCB, and find a new LCB , or persevere with Earl although his first few performances are increasingly looking anomalous

LCBs aren’t easy to find so perhaps the answer is spending time with Earl on the training ground.

MDV is far too error prone, weak in the air and loses his man. We are shoe horning him in for no apparent reason imho.

Thought MDG was okay yesterday. He was our third best player last season and has played some wonderful games for us. Problem is now I think he'll be our next scapegoated target so he could have a brilliant game and even if he loses the ball once he'll get picked apart. When we went 4 at back against Mansfield he was very good. He is poor in the air though and needs to be worked on, but if we drop him completely ill be very disappointed because undoubted player in there.

I’ve never rated him mate. He does some really great stuff like coming out of the box with the ball and is technically really gifted but he just can’t seem to keep hold of a man.

I prefer square pegs in square holes and I think that would be as above

Roberts looked awkward at LCB I thought.

    Roberts Pines Earl back 3.

Back up CH - MDG Lopata McCarthy

    Okeefe Lofthouse Cotter RWB

    Gent LWB

Hopefully Clarke doesn't see Earl as a LWB OR Roberts as a left sided centre half and the Lincoln game was just one off selection. The performance yesterday showed the balance wasn't right.

Fair enough bud. I just think he's very raw at times, and evidently quite inconsistent, definitely seems to go through hot and cold patches in my opinion but I really do think he has some cracking potential. Hopefully he's another Mads for us and after a slow start this season he picks up. I do wish he was a little faster mind

To be a RCB or LCB you need a bit of pace.. hence Collins going with Williams last season.. Where down the middle you can get away with it more.. I'd play Robbo down the middle and Pines RCB.. Pines has the more pace.. when fully fit..
But I've said before RCB would be ideal for Lofthouse for me.. maybe not yet but definitely in the future

Being no good in the air and slow on the ground aren’t good traits to have as a centre half I am afraid

Playing 4 centre backs, with 2 of them out of position is just to shoe in MDG.

and then another right sided CB occupying a bench slot, when it should have been occupied by Hourihane.

Roberts and Pines in particular defend one on ones as though their life depends on it, I reckon MDG Will only improve playing alongside those two.

Don’t like Connell higher up the field, I’d swap him and Craig round and see how it goes (Craig 3 assists in 2nd half v derby playing on the edge of their box). Connell on of the best or if not the best sat in front on the defence so why move him?. Russell is a defensive midfielder then we’ve just signed another in kelechi. I’m Concerned with getting the balance right in the middle of the park we seem to have too many of the same player.
