Football On This Day – 19th August 1995 After watching Manchester United lose their opening-day Premier League fixture 3-1 at Aston Villa Match of the Day commentator Alan Hansen was critical of United and famously said ‘you’ll never win anything with kids’. The kids included David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Gary Neville and they went on to win a League and Cup double that season!
Took advantage of collapses from Newcastle, Arsenal and Liverpool that season and again in 96/97. Too many teams nicked points off each other. A lot closer than it ended up. That was mark of a good team though. They kicked on when others folded.
You're right but (it says included) Phil Neville was that era as was Ryan Giggs also. Lee Sharpe was 25 at the time. Not advocating it btw. I Just picked up on the article looking for summat else.
I remember the stick he got despite around half a dozen of the first team regulars being much older experienced heads.
As already mentioned there's plenty of older heads in that squad. https://www.worldfootball.net/teams/manchester-united/1996/2/
