Gaga Cotter Pines Earl Roberts Lofthouse Connell Craig Hourihane or Russell Phillips Cosgrove. play Phillips as a 10. subs Watters, MDG, Yoganathan, smith, Gent
Yes, and negotiations are in place to get Tom Finney in the building in time for the weekend. The Third Division has never seen such a dynamite front two.
This team and 352 formation Can also be changed to a 442 in game with a diamond and push Lofthouse or Phillips up top where we can also revert back depending on how the game is going. Real flexibility here which I like.
We talk about the need of flexibility but we have no wingers and no number 10. Both would be ideal for Saturday because of the way they play.
De Gevigney wouldn't be anywhere near the team for me. A liability. And it's coming to something, when after an almost entire summer, the idea of playing a full back up front (who's barely played any senior games for us in his natural position as a defender) is seen as a good one. It's a bit of a mess.
I suspect it will be the same as Lincoln but maybe with Marsh in for Watters if he is injured. Personally I would start Gent ahead of Earl LWB to add some actual width and attacking threat down that side but I would move Earl back to CB and bench MDG. I would also start an extra CM and push Phillips higher rather than start Marsh as he is not good enough. So I would go Slonina Roberts Pines Earl Cotter (Russell/Benson) Craig Connell Gent Phillips Cosgrove unless we somehow pull out a new striker out of the hat today
Did you know Tom Finney once played for Barnsley against Nat Lofthouse's Bolton. It was the opening of the Floodlights Tom guested for Barnsley, I was in the ponty end that night.
Oh yes, I remember it well and the programme is in my collection. Sheff Utd's Jimmy Hagan also turned out for us - I think he was a current international at that time. Floodlights at Oakwell. What a novelty
I can’t see the team being a whole lot different to the one that started again it Lincoln, unless Watters is injured. I would like to see Gent start though. I like Earl and he did a solid job against Lincoln at left wing back but Gent will offer a lot more going forward and at home to Northampton, we should be going for it more attacking wise.
