First of all happy with the transfer window.
I've read on the BBS that some don't think we've signed a proven goal scorer.
Hypothetically who would have been classed or acceptable for Barnsley Fc as a proven striker.?
Obviously they have to fit the remit price wages etc.

Joe Taylor was a great shout but he appears to have stayed at Luton - not that surprising they want to keep him, bearing in mind their current injury list.

Otherwise the Swedish lad was a very leftfield signing - well done to the recruitment team for identifying him, just a shame it didn't come off.

Personally, I'm absolutely fine with the squad - I think our midfield looks full of goals, and I still believe Watters will hit 15+ with the right service and a run in the side. I seem to remember us getting promoted to the Premier League without really having an out and out goalscoring striker in the side.

    Joe Taylor as posted above.

Perfect for us in so many ways. He was the one I wanted us to sign above anyone else all summer.

I understand there are so many reasons behind why deals don’t happen.

I also wanted us to sign Alfie May while he was at Cheltenham.

    They are out there.

I think we've got goals all over the team personally, I don't think we'll see the strikers hitting 20+ goals it will be a good spread across the team, we've created bags full of chances so far.

Was more disappointed not strengthening the wing backs tbh still think we are defensively weak in that area.

I think I said in another thread previously but there should be goals from everywhere in the squad. Fairly certain that’s what Clarke said he wanted too.

Cosgrove, Watters, Humphrys and Jalo as a striker unit should get goals between them. Then Phillips and DKD hopefully pitching in a fair few. We then have our centre back height from set pieces, so hopefully they can chip in too.

I think defensively its about coaching and keeping our shape.Against Sheff.Utd the shape was very good and I think it will continually improve as the season goes on.

I’m hoping this new strikeforce will help us defensively.

I’ve never seen a player worse than Cole at holding the ball up and general play, if he didn’t score it was like playing with 9 men (9 because he was that bad he actively helped the opposition).

Cosgrove, despite his size isn’t that much better.

We’ve had two and a bit seasons of the ball coming straight back, we’ve seen how hard it is for us to kill the game off and how many goals we’ve conceded late on.

Attack is the first line of defense, and making the ball stick in the final third, taking the pressure off the defense is something I hope we will see much more of going forward - and in turn an uptick in goals scored and less goals conceded!

Hearing the Luton manager last week i never expected Taylor to go anywhere.
Edwards said Taylor would only go for big money and that was dependent of bringing someone else in.

Not sure how we could have done much better than someone who just scored 22 goals and 11 assists. If he repeats that this season we will be ecstatic and his value will quadruple.

Now there I agree with you. May, in my mind was a no brainer, Duff had managed him. I thought we should go and get him. That being said I've no idea whether we tried, weren't bothered, he didn't want to come etc.
There were plenty on here saying he was a one season wonder and we should be going for better. Maybe he'd have got us up, maybe he wouldn't have fitted in. You never know and hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Mate….i don’t disagree with you entirely on the other thread. I think we both post good points. In the end I think all fans want the best for the coming season. I’m severely hoping I’m wrong in so many ways about not replacing the goals. It’s just that before a ball is kicked….i think we still lack firepower.

I think DKD could potentially be great business tho. Just hope Clarke can fit him in with Phillips also in the team.

I really wanted us to get him too cos he's ace, but I'd argue he's not a proven L1 striker either.

Only had a good half season at Lincoln so not exactly a proven L1 striker as such, but I agree he's one I really wanted
