…think we have a starting 11 that suits this formation now and one that DC has eluded to due to getting an extra wide player in. Slonina Cotter De Gevigney Pines Earl Craig Connell Phillips DKD Humphrys Cosgrove Subs: Killip, O’Keefe, Roberts, Russell, Benson, Jalo, Watters.. (when all fit). -the bench will look a lot more healthy. -Humphrys played out on the left a fair bit for Wigan whilst DKD & Phillips are interchangeable. -options in the back 4 as well at full-back. -Cosgrove will be able to be a ****-house up top whilst having 3 playing off of him. As long as we can keep everyone fit there is options available to change formations mid-game too.
I hope so Scott, I want to see something different & much prefer a flat back 4, with forward players actually getting forward as opposed to Wing backs leaving big gaps down the flanks. I actually think Cotter is more of a winger, he’s got no defensive awareness at all, so he could be an option out wide. Having said that being flexible & able to change mid game could be key going forward, especially against the top end sides. Either way we’re in a much better position now we’ve made the 2 additions up top.
Also to note the likes of; Gent, Lofthouse, Nwakali, Yoganathan & Marsh aren’t in my squad either so there is options available… if we can keep everyone fit!
I'd go Watters for Cosgrove due to his pace Roberts over Mael for experience Not sure Cotter would be the right choice at RB he is however for RWB. Gent and Nkwali must make the bench, you can't recruit players to sit them in the stand like Winnal at Wednesday.
Lofthouse is a strange one he’s looked good off the bench, we’ve had a few of these over the last few years
I'm a big fan of this formation, as long as you have the right players. Back four, defensive cover, and 4 attacking players with width. I believe Simon Davey could've really capitalised on this formation if he wasn't so stubborn/stupid
