This day in 1898 was the day that Barnsley played the club's first ever match in the Football League. It ended in a 1-0 defeat away at Lincoln City, the home team scoring after 75 mins. It was surprisingly played on a Thursday afternoon.
I can imagine the moaners; failed to score, failed to keep a clean sheet, sign a striker, Fairclough out, sack the board, they don't want to go up, etc, etc.
Our owners get it in the neck, but even them wouldn't pick a Thursday afternoon for our professional debut.
No flatbreads, screens in the ESL concourse not working...like the new bogs in the West Stand though.
My old dad used to say 'Bed & breakfast', when we scored 26 at darts lol. Because apparently, it used to cost 2 & 6, (whatever that was).
Half day closing?.. allow more people to attend, even the players. They wouldn't have been professional
