I've always wanted to do this, and I admire those who do this and make it look so easy.

I'm more of a guitar man, but I love any instrument. I find that once you're familiar with a chord you can play a good few tunes in and around that bunch of notes. Jam on

Are you playing the left hand to the melody?

I am left handed Brewie lol, but I just haven't got the talent I suppose to do this. It looks easy, but I can't do it!.

I had a guitar when I was younger Athers, it was an older basic brother hand me down type thing... and I never even gave it a second glance lol.
I always wanted to play the piano, from an early age. :)

I've been trying to learn guitar on and off for years , you think your not getting anywhere but slowly and surly you do progress .

Stick at it , what you can do now you could t do yesterday .

I can play the ukulele to a decent standard. Planning on getting a guitar and giving that a go, have tried before but found some of the finger placings a bit tricky, hence why I picked up a uke. I learnt a little bit of piano about 15 years ago, only very basic though.

My late dad couldn't read a note of music.
However was a brilliant pub pianist in the 60s 70s well known for filling the pub with his skill of playing by hear.
He tried to teach me years ago and I can to a certain level play by ear.
It's practice mate , I'm thinking of buying an electronic key board so I can put the headphones on so no one else suffers.
Good luck, keep the practice up.

I taught myself to play many years ago...I wasn't a natural, and tbh it was a bit mechanical rather than natural fluency, but I could knock a few tunes out for my own enjoyment, when you get the left hand working with the right some of the sounds can be wonderful and educational...I realised that prior to trying to play I'd only ever really taken notice of the melody line in a song. I was lucky in that my old man had a Hammond Organ for years and had amassed boxes full of sheet music to pick from. What I would do is buy (you might find stuff online FOC) some simple organ music and learn how to shape a few chords with the left hand, with a modern keyboard you will be able to just hold and sustain the chord until you need to change to another chord...once you've memorised a few 'shapes' you're on your way. ..just keep building new chords on. Piano music is trickier with the left hand because it doesn't have the same sustain, so you need to use more finger changes than just holding down a shape...but when you start getting the hang of it all....throwing in a few sharps and flats it's very rewarding.
I later taught myself to play the Concertina...harder than a keyboard, I was never good enough to entertain others but it kept me out of mischief and was very satisfying.
