Jon Russell has been selected to represent the Jamaican national team for the upcoming international fixtures. The Reggae Boyz are set to take on Cuba and Honduras in the CONACAF Nations League on Saturday 7th September and and Wednesday 11th September. This weekend Jamaica host Cuba at the National Stadium in Kingston before travelling to the Honduran capital midweek at the Estadio Nacional Chelato Uclés. Best of luck, Jon! Continue reading...
Vimal Yoganathan has been called up to Wales u21s too, so that's 2 players we're missing for the weekend. We might get to see Kelechi Nwakali.
I’m just amazed at how many clubs have had their fixtures cancelled because of call ups but we haven’t. Not that I’m complaining. I want to see us play on Saturday
Good luck to both our internationals. It shows how strong we are in midfield that we could still have a bench containing Benson, Hourihane and Nwakali despite missing 2 decent options.
I think the tipping point is three they have two also let's hope they are more influential than our two.
Good luck to the lad but this call up is too late for him to be playing on Friday night in Jamaica anyway.
Honestly just think all teams should just have the international breaks or all club games should just have to play still.
I’d rather us not call the game off, even if we do have three called up. It’s why we have squads. And we can’t moan at others for doing it if we do it ourselves, although Ipswich took the piss, claiming their third choice left back had been called up, when he hadn’t, just to avoid playing us without two of their players, whilst we were on a decent run of form. Worked out well for them though, the cowards. It happened to us once before, when we had three called up, but the manager at the time played the game anyway. I think it was Stendel. Bristol Rovers have had two called up though, so if they have another they may back out. Hopefully not.
The name escapes me but the lad who has been called up for Sierra Leone is a regular starter in their midfield. Forbes, the Northern Ireland U21 is miles away from their first team. Not even made bench last 3 league games.
"Jon Russell has gone to the West Indies." "Jamaicim?" "No, he went of his own accord." Hmm... Doesn't quote work. Back to the drawing board.
I think he actually got the call up last week, the club have just been slow announcing it. He's with the squad already.
I think we're probably only a season or two away from the international break being extended to L1 at least.
The stupid cup with under 21s should be played during international breaks and games shouldn't be allowed to be postponed regardless of call ups. Then change the first rounds of the league cup to a league format that takes place preseason as friendlies (regionalised) and you've solved all the fixture congestion problems for everyone apart from the billionaire clubs
