I grew up with them shoved down my throat from an early age. Bee's knees, dogs b ol ocks. People in Pontefract didn't know West on a compass if it whacked them in face.

What I hated most was Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Newcastle and f cuking Southampton of all teams served it up to them.

Their titles were due to grind and submission and they won all the time as your heroes Merson, Wright, Barmby, Klinsmann, Sheringham, Fowler, Le Tissier and co floundered.

Why don't I hate Man City? They're everything I hate about Man Utd but they can back it up. Teams don't turn up at the Etihad having lost at the service station on the M1.

They trade toe to toe and succumb. Some conquer and are remembered. Man City are by far and away the best ever.

I hated United growing up but I'd take them over City any day of the week. I think it's City who grind teams down with technically impressive but passionless football. Add in the sportswashing, 115 charges and hypocrite drugs cheat manager and I find them so much more detestable.

Plus I don't see that many teams trying to go toe to toe rather than sitting back and getting picked off. Liverpool and Arsenal I guess, plus maybe Spurs but only because Ange is pretty naive.

Hate Man City, club made from money.
Don't agree with your post at all

Least ManUtd were a team who always had money but built up by coaching and infrastructure
Putting fear into other teams is what sports teams do!

Even Arsenal last year sat back the whole game to grind a result out and Arteta was roundly praised by pundits for changing his tact from previous games

Man Utd were the first PL poster boys and SKY raised their profile to whole new levels to push their own product.
Football wise though the early MU PL teams with the likes of Kanchelskis, Giggs on each wing were great to watch.

Man U were a good team SD. didn't always buy the best player at the time, Henry. Bergkamp. Shearer plus a host at Liverpool weren't tempted by Man Utd's glory period. Only thing that pss's me is this myth that they developed British talent when it was the limitation of foreign players that pushed the development players into the team.

Man Utd were a Sky product. They were already a popular club, Busby, Best and co. Huge city and catchment area too. Sky bankrolled them and made them a product. Liverpool were the dominant force, but maybe the city was too "left wing" for corporate greed, so they chose Manchester.

City were always a million miles away from United's prestige. They had a spell in the 70's but that's it. But they had some massive potential. The Saudis took over and bought a generation of plastics to boost business. It's a stock broker's game the PL. That's why I hate football, and slowly getting put off attending Oakwell. The greed is spreading downwards

Liverpool under Bob Paisley were better then city given the more level playing fields in terms of spending at the time - their achievements in Europe as well.

Fergie did a brilliant job but it was a lot easier then than it is now. It was a 2 horse race for the majority of his reign.

After brief competition from Blackburn & Newcastle they had a long battle with Arsenal & then a long battle with Chelsea.

You could win a league with 80 points back then. A club like Ipswich could get up & finish 5th. Everton could finish 4th with Marcus Bent starting up front.

Now you’re talking 90 points plus to win a league & mid-table sides are full of internationals for proper countries as clubs like Brighton, West Ham, Palace etc are richer than most teams in Europe bar an elite few.

The Brazil midfield recently was made up of players from Newcastle, West Ham & Wolves & even Forest have got a regular Brazil international. The depths frightening nowadays as shown with the newly promoted sides going straight back down last season.

I agree with pretty much all of this, but gonna call you out as I'm pretty certain it was us, Bolton and Palace who went down in 97-98 :)

Not sure how accurate that is TBH, relative to today he spent nothing but in his day he did spend Dalglish, Souness, Lawrence spring to mind.
    Doesn’t alter his achievements though.

Man utd were lots of peoples second team growing up when I was a kid. The team that included. Best. Charlton. Stiles. Kidd. law and so on, were a team to behold. I still prefer em over to city. who let's be honest bought more titles than man utd with far less outside income.
Also the team under Fergie contained lots of home grown talent, even if not from manchester specifically. (City I genuinely dont know as I don't follow football at all unless its tarn. Been like that for a few decades? ) I still have a soft spot on them over any other club in the prem. Not that it fits in high on my scheme of things.
    Love Barnsley hate football.

I couldn't care less about either City or United.
They are everything that is wrong with the game, and that includes Liverpool as well, because they're just as bad!.

The sooner they fekk off to a european super league along with all the other wannabes. Like Newcastle. Chelsea, Spurs Arsenal. The better. I'm sure it would be a much fairer playing field. As all the other mega rich wannabes wouldnt want to be involved without those clubs in the league. Used to feel for the fans of these greed clubs but not so much now as I get older.

Some Burnley and Leeds fans (and loads of other teams fans as well) have said in recent years, that its not too bad going back down to the Championship.
Its real old fashioned competitive English football for example, not like the greedy appalling Prem league.
But most of them do also admit, that the money is good, while their team are in it!.

That would kill English football. The reason if Tottenham played Barnsley and I want Barnsley to win is because it's my dream for Barnsley to be a success in the Premier League. No big clubs, no point following Barnsley for me.

If they all left that would me done with Football, which would please people :D

I watch Barnsley in the hope that one day we would be competing in the same league as those teams. If they left then whoever won the PL would have a massive mark by their name as people would say they only won it because the big clubs have left. What Leicester did would never happen again.
