According to the Chronicle letters page Dan Jarvis has written to the Man Utd board asking them to review the ticket pricing structure. Apparently last season when Crystal Palace played Man U in this competition the top price was £30.

Who'd have thought it, a football club putting prices up unjustifiably

Speaking of unjustifiable price rip offs. Have you seen what Villa are charging for group games in the champions league. For comparison you can go in the Kop at Liverpool for £30 for theirCL games

I suspect it’s because it’s short trip for Reds fans to make than for the Palace supporters so more likely and willing to pay up. Just a guess though

so they see the news about how people are struggling to eat and pay for heating, then come up with that , so they can afford to pay some prima donna to waltz about showing how rich they are. Top level football is truly fked up!

I guess Palace also play them in the league every year, so why take a day off work to travel to a ground you visit every season. Also, Man U (and Barnsley) know that enough Reds fans will pay it, as we rarely get to visit grounds like Old Trafford.

I wonder how much the home fans are paying? Especially since the away fans get the worst seats in the ground, shoved in a corner.

Worse than that are trying to charge disabled people nearly 400 quid to use their car park.

Pre covid we were paying around thirty quid to go to some places. Half a decade on with inflation etc I dunno what people expected. We are playing one of the biggest teams in the world, at one of the most iconic grounds for maybe the last time before they move to a new ground on a slightly different site.

I'd expect a much stronger line up, just like ours will be.

All premier league games are capped at £30 for away teams, have been some time.

It wasn't a premier league game against Palace it was the Carabao cup, which is the point Dan Jarvis is making.

I'm not sure that those in charge of our club would be happy about this, considering that we share the gate receipts, after deductions for expenses etc.

Massively different I’d say. It’s one trophy they have a chance of winning plus Ten Haag is under a lot of pressure. I personally hope they don’t field a strong side as it improves our chances. I’m not going to watch their stars anyway.

Obviously, it depends on the size of the attendance. If the average price is £40 and there are 70,000 there, that comes to £2.8 million. Clearly, stewarding will cost a fair bit, and there will be other expenses. How much it all adds up to is impossible for us to assess. If it were as much as £200k (surely unlikely??), that could still leave £2.6 million. 40% of that = £1million +£40k. This is just a wild guess, of course, but a very large attendance at the prices being charged obviously brings in a lot of cash. Peanuts to Man United, but a very significant amount to us. Even half of my wild guess would give us over £500k.

Its not to be sniffed at is it, a half a mill profit (or more, regardless of the result). :)
