Unfortunately my lad had a free weekend in the league so only a friendly at Redfearns, but sure some of your kids/grandkids were playing today. Hope it was a good start to the season for them all.
Not today… but I’m up for it another weekend! I was of course, very considerate and parked in the car park.
A mixed bag for my boys. Eldest's team (Wombwell Town U11's) won 7-2 against a usually very good Wickersley, but my youngest's team (Staincross Rangers U7's) lost 10-4. Both enjoyed their games though, so that's all that matters at that age.
Good lad. They put all the cones out so then folk come and park at top of Littleworth Lane and congest that instead of Burton Rd. Lesser of 2 evils unless you live there.
Football is full of ups and downs, glad they've both come away with positives. Random question because there's 12 years between my lads, but is there a reason you didn't take the youngest to Wombwell town given that the oldest was already established there?
Sorry for the late reply, I fell asleep! He did start last year with the then U6 Wombwell Town team, but there was a lot of turmoil going off in that age group at the time, parents not getting on and the manager apparently wanting to focus on winning over development and fair game time. I didn't really have much involvement as I'm the assistant manager for the U11's, it was my Dad (who used to coach years ago) that took the youngest. He just got a bad vibe from the whole set up at that time. A fellow player in the U11's with my eldest also has a younger brother who did the exact same thing and joined, but left for Staincross Rangers. Everyone loves to win, but trying to win at the expense of having 6-year-olds not getting game time isn't on for me, or several other parents in that age group!
Young Alfie played two league games started a week early to free up the weekend of the dee dar derby . Won the first 4-2 scored a hat trick and yesterday 1-0 got the winner great to see him doing well but even better to see a load of wendies jumping up and darn for a lad from tarn.
My lads team (Harrogate Railway U14's) won 5-0 in their first game of the season. They've gone up a division after winning the league last season. The fans were great and we go again next week!
Grandson's team, Wakefield Athletic under 10 Blacks, beat Ossett Albion 7-0. The lad scored 4 but not happy as he got his new kit muddy!
My lad scored 2 for his team in Sheffield (where Mum lives) and they won 5-2. His team here (Wakey) won 6-2, with his step-brother scoring and getting MOTM. So all in all a good start!
