What do the players expect? Is this supposed to be motivational?

No. But that’s hardly the point is it?

My point is, you don’t say this out loud before a ball has been kicked.

It wasn't appropriate. At all. You could put forward the argument that he said this to the press, but communicated a very different message to his players. But that doesn't wash these days. Back in the day a Barnsley manager could give his pre-match press conference to a handful of journalists and, unless he said something particularly controversial, you'd get, at best, a snippet of it on Radio Sheffield and Hallam, plus a few lines in The Chronicle and The Barnsley Star. Which very few (none) of the players would hear/see. And for a midweek game, it might not get published/broadcast anywhere until after the game had been played. But the players could have read these words on any number of websites on the coach to the game. "Oh, we're going to get punished are we? Thanks for the confidence. You've made me feel great." I can't think of a worse example of managing your employees.

I think there are a few concerning red flags that he might be, you know, not the sharpest tool in the shed.

He's saying all the things fans want to hear with him praising them and not sugar coating the players.

But he should be judged on his actions not words and he again made tactical mistakes tonight. Jalo has barely played this season but gets a start at our toughest fixture of the season? Vimal barely gets a sniff in the league and is also deemed worthy?

For all he mentioned he failed to mention his own shortcomings and that the players he picked didn't get a shot on target all game.

"We must repay the fans with a proper performance on Saturday. End of."

Screenshot_20240918_005619_X.jpg The 'right time' obviously being totally out of the blue starts at Manchester United away in front of 70,000 people where they both got drybummed so badly they had to get hauled off at half time.

He's right in everything he says there. He's bang on. But there's a huge omission. He does not address his part in the debacle. His team selection, his tactics, his coaching, his words to the press before the game. The players did not play nearly as well as they are capable of and he's right to criticise that. But if he keeps passing the buck, pointing fingers, and failing to take responsibility, he's going to lose them. We didn't play well, but he set us up to lose. It was a ridiculous team selection.

This is nonsense from Clarke & I hope Doug asks him about it Thursday.

How do they deserve it? Jalo has barely featured through injury & Yoganathan only really impressed against Man Utd’s reserves. In his last start in central midfield didn’t he give a stupid pen away & get dragged off?

His last team did get relegated. Which feels really sad to point out but reasons.
