Last nights gone and although a painful defeat it didn't hurt as much as losing at Stevenage.
I'm no manager or coach but a few tweaks I would like to see are.
Roberts should be the first name on the team sheet and I believe him and Pines will make a formidable partnership in league one but we have to play them every game when possible to iron out any initial flaws.
Next for me is get get Connor Hourahaine in the team, work on his fitness if thats below any par and put his coaching duties on a back burner. He's here for a few years and plenty of time to go back to coaching.
I don't think there's as much wrong as some seem to think but we've got to get a team which is consistent and the only way to do that is to play them week in week out barring injuries suspensions etc.
I hope and expect Burton to be put to the sword at the weekend after the last 2 games.

I just hope our season hasn't gone for a Burton.

Like many in charge, coaches don`t seem to know their best starting 11 until quite a way into the season.

Burton looked extremely pacey going forwards against Lincoln, and were unlucky to lose. They are quite flimsy at the back though, so I'd expect a high-scoring draw.

Fully agree with the rest of your post though - don't think things are anywhere near as bad as people are making out.

I'll probably go for a Burton after the game on Saturday, Coopers Tavern, Devonshire Arms, The Roebuck and The Weighbridge are all possible venues.

Barnsley have been playing 5 at the back for a long time. Recruitment wise it makes sense to choose a formation and stick to it. However times change in football, there are very few, if any top teams still playing 5 at the back. Football changes quickly and Barnsley need to move with the times and have the flexibility to be more fluid.

Yes, 5 at the back was all the rage 7,8,9 years ago. Changed again now with 4 at back, a lot of the times with 4 centre halves instead of full backs or wing backs, and centre mids drop back whilst the wide defensive players invert. I get why we play the way we do but would love to see a good old fashioned 4.4.2 or 4.3.3

Pines won’t be playing Saturday if he had concussion, we have a striker problem , Humphries had a few decent moments yesterday and is worth a start .

Humphrys looked decent but he also looked unfit. Can’t see him starting a game for a while.

History says we do pretty well with player coaches.

Burton nailed on to beat us by virtue of them performing better at Old Trafford, and it was only as recent as 19 yrs ago :)

Bit like Norwood when he signed mate. I think he’ll be first choice when fully fit. Just seems to have more about him than Cosgrove and Watters doesn’t he?

Clarke has answered the point about Hourihane. He's here as a coach first and foremost and we're not going to see him play. Maybe, if there's an injury crisis but we have that many midfielders, even then we're probably not.

That's fine, but it was pretty strongly implied when he joined us that he'd be playing at least some of the time.

I think it was more than implied, I think it was clearly expressed that would be the case.
