Home made Pea & Ham does it for me. Especially in the winter, with a cheeky brandy/port combo to follow
Heinz Celery soup was excellent, sadly they dropped it from the range many years ago...Campbell's do it but it's crap.
Just got one. Makes lovely soup in 20 minutes. Done chicken and mushroom and a vegetable so far. Delicious.
Pea and ham is superb but I am genuinely not adverse to a nice minestrone. Carrot and coriander is also not a bad drop. With some lovely tiger bread and butter.
How does that work? Takes a good hour to make a proper stock, preferably longer. If I've got the stock to hand I can knock up most soups in 30-40 minutes using a good cast iron pan.
Boring I know, but tomato soup with loads of buttered crusty bread to dip in. Followed by freshly made parkin. Heaven.
Chunky soup North East style Carrotts, Leeks, Turnip, onions, diced potato, tomato puree, split lentils, pearl barley then boil a gammon joint then break it up into the soup adding half of the gammon stock. Served with dumplings and good sprinkle of curry powder it's the dogs b******s
