Barnsley Football Club can confirm that Dean Whitehead has left the club to join the backroom team at Stoke City. Whitehead joined the Reds this summer as part of Darrell Clarke’s coaching staff, however he has now exercised a clause in his agreement allowing him to leave Oakwell. We would like to thank Dean for his hard work over the past two months and we wish him well for the future. Makes sense - Stoke is ‘his club’ and they’ve just appointed a new manager today as well. Also, Jon Walters is Head of Football at Stoke, and knows Whitehead well. So he’s pulled them all together. No doubt on good money and closer to home. I don’t think it’s a great loss and I suspect there was always a chance they were going to come knocking, hence his clause in the contract.
