Clarke and his 147 coaches

A cowardly display of boring, negative coaching. Utter, utter rubbish.

Equally they are not helped by the fact that to change the strikers they had to reduce us to 9 men with the introduction of Cosgrove and Marsh.

And this consistently instructing Slonina to feign injury so they can give a team talk that changes nothing is embarrassing.

 

Think he will be removed from his post, if this carries on, he talks the talk but needs to take a look in the mirror and not blame the players. This draw is on his shoulders today.

 

This constant jab at the amount of coaches we have. I don't understand it? We're in line with alot of other clubs in the league & a lot less than a lot of other clubs in the EFL??

 

Too many c̶o̶o̶k̶s̶ coaches.....

 

I suppose the justifiable question is what are we paying them for? My long dead and buried nan could tell our side to defend for 90 minutes after scoring a penalty and the outcome today would've been the same.

A coach that's actually being paid real money, you would think, would be able to do more than coach players to just give the ball to the opposition constantly.

Or I may be wrong. Who knows.

There were lots of introductions to new coaches during the summer, lots of talk about who will be doing this and that. Hourihane was brought in as a player coach as far as we were all concerned, doing lots of playing and some coaching. Turns out he's doing lots of coaching and no playing. And we'd still got Devaney.

But one coach was never mentioned. Many people assumed, myself included, that he would be shown the door. But when I see Clarke in discussion with a coach on the bench, it's always Jon Stead. So what are the other dozen coaches getting wages for?

 

What did Marsh do wrong tonight? Could’ve had two assists.

Tactics were **** but the forwards weren’t to blame. We had midfielders & wing backs constantly picking ‘safe’ options rather than trying to go for a second.

Even Adam Phillips was guilty of it several times who I’m a big fan of.

 

I agree. Marsh had some impact on the game whereas Cosgrove did nothing. For a big man, he never wins a header!

 

We aren't a patch on Arriva.

 

I used to play it too, not for a good while now. But perhaps I'll throw my hat into the ring whenever Clarke gets the sack/walks

 

It's a question worth asking, bud. I'm not suggesting otherwise, I just don't understand the jabs at the amount when it's completely normal in this day & age. A few years ago it used to be head & assistant coach for main stuff i.e tactics, formations etc, the set piece coach to make sure we're doing them properly and to watch how/when runs are made at both ends etc etc, and then an attacking & defensive coach for training. Now there's coaches for all sorts of stuff, including throw ins at the real big clubs.

We crumble at home, have done for a while now. It's weird but even the new players seem to retreat (though it's natural when all your teammates are doing the same thing) time & time again. It's different away usually. Some of it has to be on Clarke, but I honestly think there's a stumbling block there when at home, weak mentality. Scared to do anything, nobody wanting the ball, composure non-existant.

We also time waste constantly with our keepers, for about 5 years now. I don't mind late on, but from the first half when only 1 nil up. It baffles me. Surely that has to be on Clarke, Collins, Duff etc. Otherwise why wouldn't you just bollock your keeper for doing it and then he'd hopefully stop?

 

Was Phillips playing? After the penalty?

 

About as bad as I’ve seen him play.

 

Marsh was the best of the subs who came on.

And like you, I think Phillips is quality. But tonight he went missing. Along with most.

The lack of attacking or forward thinking intent from usually offensive players tonight was so disappointing. I can’t imagine the plan was to sit on a 1-0 lead for 75 minutes but it did look like that.

 

He really is an anomaly. Scores goals but is largely anonymous otherwise. His goals would make him a regular in the championship but his all-round play is sub-League One.

 

The more bizarre thing is, whenever we play poorly, it's basically everyone on the pitch. It's never just one or two who has a bad game, it's everyone. Either everyone performs or seemingly everyone has a poor game

 

Spectemur Agendo: do we judge Clarke on his tough talking words against the players, or his actions of behaving like a frightened schoolgirl and resorting to all out defence as soon as we take a lead against the big guns of Burton and Stockport.

He talks tough and acts soft.

 

I dont think its that simple though. How many times does it happen under different managers? You constantly hear managers and players say its natural and its a mind set. Quite clearly there's something when we're at home why we struggle. Let's not overreact though. Our best league start in 6 years.
