Just watched Duffs interview before Saturdays game. Has alot of good things to say about the club, how much he loved his time there and that he admits he left too early and regrets it. Also says Herbie Kane came back from pre season a mile away from what is expected. Definitely suggesting he was a lot overweight.
The only way he’d score against us is if he thought he was still playing for us and passes it backwards.
He’d be at home in the current midfield then. For all his supposed faults, I haven’t noticed any improvement in that department since he left.
First time I had heard the referee had apologised to him after the Wembley game for two decisions he had got wrong.
Funny thing was, our main take from the Derby friendly was the opposite. It was noticeable how few backwards passes there were. We left that game thinking we were going to see something different this season. But whilst Connell hasn’t gone the full Kane just yet, he’s scarily close. There was one moment the other night where this realisation was hammered home. Earl had it by the touchline and noticed that with a Wycombe player in front of him restricting the option of the hoof, the only alternative was passing it back to Pines. I think Earl has realised, like the rest of us, that giving Pines the ball to his feet within 20 yards of our goal is as safe as asking Paddy McCourt to look after your pint, so he was relieved to see his captain come back to offer a more forward thinking option. Earl gave the ball to Connell…who then passed it back to Pines. That was in the first half and was the moment I started calculating how many more points we needed for safety.
I really don’t know what Connell is. When we were on the front foot at Lincoln, he was like a third striker until the whole team dropped back to try and hang on to 2-1. In recent games I’ve been getting him mixed up with Craig.
3rd season in a row this has been said BFC always overachieving, people putting us in/around relegation spots and somehow miraculously making it into the play offs both times!
I think sometimes players just pass for the sake of passing these days. I regularly see midfielders get rid of it quickly to centre backs even when they aren’t under pressure. There’s nothing wrong at all with just holding on it to a few seconds & seeing if someone’s making a run for you rather than giving it to a Pines or Roberts.
Making an easy 5 yard pass gets their passing accuracy stats up. Looks good on the spreadsheet for when a data driven recruitment team come a looking
Hang on a ******* minute so the ref apologised to him at Wembley after the game about the decisions? That makes it even ******* worse incompetent ******
I still don’t understand VAR involvement in all of this? Surely they could see it was a clear and obvious error. so if that was the case and it meant that VAR would’ve told him on his headset and he’s refused to look at it because he thought it was right? Then apologised after the game? Just doesn’t make sense at all. Convinced it was rigged
