Hasn't every town had a Rose & Crown and/or a Cross Keys pub, they seem to be the most popular names over the years.
My favourite pub name though was The Slaughtered Lamb (on the film An American werewolf in London).

I remember reading that and thinking that there wasn’t one around Wakefield ( except one being renamed after Wetherspoons sold it ).
Are there many Red Lions around Barnsley ?

Scary times for pubs at the minute…. If we want to keep them we need to use them. Lots of landlords I know are struggling.

Used to work just across from the Keel in the mid 1970s, we'd regularly go across and bring a tray of pints back, still Barnsley Bitter then.

I live in Cudworth and there's a fair few round here still which aren't half bad, Star, Vic, Pinfold, Darfield Road WMC, Kens Keg, Williams, Industrial sports and social, granted I've never been in last one, pretty sure Cudworth Social Club is shut now too, that's at top of our road.

Lived in Athersley most of my time though, Wellington was a good one - now shut, Sportsman, Royal Arms and Woodmoor all shut, aside from that you've only really got Easties, Haddon Road club, New Lodge club what are worth going in.
