Live from the Assembly Rooms Derby currently on BBC4 iPlayer. Takes me back to the most influential years of my life, late 70s , early 80’s. I’m going to see Peter Hook and the Light play both Joy Division albums in their entirety in Whitby in a couple of weeks. I think I’m having a late life crisis…

    I’m totally with you mate.
I saw early New Order on several occasions and used to chant with the crowd for them to play Ceremony which eventually they did.
Most of the folk were Joy Div fans who thought it their obligation to support New Order… as I did … until I suddenly realised that I didn’t really like the “ new” style of music ( although very catchy and mesmeric ).
When Hooky started doing full JD sets it was sublime to see and hear.
It was like the second best thing to having Curtis revived.
I’ve seen the Light (!) quite a few times and the sound has gradually improved to becoming almost what you could imagine Joy Division to sound like in their latter times.
Hooky loves touring and playing live and keeping the JD sound alive… Love him

The Smiths, probably the most overrated band in British musical history, the front man especially, he and his band mates should be thought of as most people think of The Worzels.

Nah. People like what they like. No one’s ever ‘over rated’, just rated by some and not others.

Definitely my favourite period for music and football. Even now, I'm buying albums from that period and still have plenty of blanks to fill in. If anyone ever invents time travel, I'd be straight off to revisit 1978.
