Same here and I have very similar feelings. I'm in remission from prostate cancer and reading this makes me feel really sad.

I had my cancerous prostate removed in March and up to press I'm one of the fortunate ones who are "now cancer free". I'm in a FB prostate cancer support group. One of our group members was given a terminal diagnosis of 2 years. He is now in his 7th year. There are new treatments coming on line which will hopefully give men like Chris more years. Cancer is a nasty cruel disease which in the case of Prostate Cancer has no early symptoms which is the reason men as young as 40 need to get a PSA test. It is not as some people believe, and some GPs will tell you, just an old mans disease. The stats say 1 in 8 men will get it. I have recently learned that 2 more of the 4 lads I hung around with in my teens now have PC. One is so far advanced the cancer has spread and for him surgery is not an option.

I had mine removed in March by Mr. Cumberbatch at the Royal Hallamshire. I have a telephone consultation next Friday.

I had the 3 options of removal, radiotherapy, brachytherapy. I opted for brachytherapy in Leeds as Sheffield don't do that treatment. So far, I'm doing really well and my PSA is down to 0.25.
Absolutely living life to the full now.

Good luck pal. I had a PSA test in July that thankfully was fine. I urge any blokes over 40 to have a test, it could save their lives.

Further to my earlier post I hope the good that comes from this is a wake up call for blokes everywhere. Men in the main are hopeless at going to the doctors even when symptoms are slight. There’s a misconception that prostate cancer is an old man’s cancer. It’s not. Chris Hoy is 48 and his problems are in an advanced state. He had a scan that showed a tumor in his shoulder. A further scan showed the main cancer was in his prostate which had metastasised to his shoulder, hip, spine, pelvis and ribs. The point I’m trying to make is that if you’re a man of 45 or older, go to your GP and ask for a prostate specific antigen test. Don’t be put off. I’m a member of a PC support group and nearly all of us were told ,first time round, we didn’t need one. I was told, at 70, I was fit and healthy enough so I didn’t need one. Two months later I was diagnosed with PC. My ’Gleeson score’ was 9. As the consultant said to me, “if we catch it early enough we will cure it.” Get a PSA test.

I had mine removed in May 2018 and luckily it hadn't spread to my bones. I get my psa checked twice a year and it came back ok again last week,it certainly changed my outlook on life, live for TODAY not tomorrow because we don't know what the hell's round the corner.

Absolutely gutting news, he's an absolute legend of the sporting world, and such a real good guy too. Sickening.

All the very best to all those who've posted about their own problems too.

Well put @RichK I've been dwelling on it today and the thought that he kept it under wraps during the Paris Olympics, a true professional . Doesn't bear thinking about that it will be his last one, the awe and respect Laura Kenny had for him was unreal.
